The period of detention for the accused in the “February 26 Case” has been extended

The Kyiv District Court of Simferopol extended until November 19 the term of detention of Mustafa Degermendzhi, the defendant in the February 26 Case. According to the first deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelal on Facebook, the judge, before making a decision, “arranged a demonstrative educational program for the prosecutor and the investigator, exposing them as not very professional people,” but this did not affect the essence of the decision. Degermendzhi is accused of participating in mass riots: on February 26, 2014, there were clashes near the parliament building in Simferopol, and the Russian Investigative Committee opened a case, according to which people of Crimean Tatar nationality staged mass riots on the instructions of the deputy head of the Mejlis, Akhtem Chiygoz. On October 12, another defendant in this case, Eskender Nebiev, a cameraman for the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR, was given a two and a half year suspended sentence.
