Colonel of the Internal Service Sergey Telyatnikov, head of the Butyrka Prison, officially called "Butyrka Prison Castle" (which is recorded on the colonel's business card), shows a recently renovated medical unit: blue-painted walls, carpeted floors, hot water chambers and an ultrasound machine in treatment room...
Only two and a half years have passed since Sergei Magnitsky died within these walls. He was dying just from a lack of medical care, from the fact that this ill-fated ultrasound machine was not here (it was only in Matrosskaya Tishina), and they did not take him to the hospital for examination - they say, "there is no convoy." He was denied basic treatment, and he sent unanswered complaints-SOS!
And now the head of the pre-trial detention center complains that over the past year they had to take sick prisoners to city hospitals 286 times - God forbid they die. And in response to my remark that, probably, changes for the better in the pre-trial detention center are connected with the death of Magnitsky, the head shakes his head: “What does Magnitsky have to do with it?” Repairs in the medical unit have nothing to do with the deaths in the pre-trial detention center and the lack of medical care, the colonel assures. And the state did not give money to the prison. Made with extrabudgetary money. Earned at the store, hairdresser. Hard to believe…
Magnitsky is still not loved in the prison system. Although it is obvious: Medvedev's much-lauded humanization - with the repair of the pre-trial detention center, liberal amendments to legislation, empty talk about the need for an economic amnesty, all this is due to the "Magnitsky list", which imposes tough visa sanctions on several dozen Russian officials. Moreover, in the United States, a ban on the entry of bureaucrats from the list is already in effect.
„
The Investigative Committee reported, reassured the public: a little more and those responsible for the death of Magnitsky will be punished ... Everything ended in zilch. And the feeling is the worst
”
When Magnitsky was dying, there was not only an ultrasound machine in Butyrka, but also a qualified doctor. The therapeutic department was headed by sanitary doctor Larisa Litvinova - the same one who was the first to be charged with involvement in the death of a lawyer. The case was investigated for almost two years, and then it suddenly became clear: the statute of limitations had expired and Litvinova was not to blame. So far, only the former deputy head of Butyrka for medical affairs, doctor Dmitry Kratov, is being "punched off" for the death of Magnitsky. But it looks like the case will be closed against him somehow. After all, even in a Moscow court it will look ridiculous: Magnitsky died in the hospital of the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center, and Butyrka's doctor will have to answer for this.
However, for almost two years, investigators for especially important cases of the Investigative Committee (IC) were not embarrassed by this fact. The investigators carried out examination after examination, the Investigative Committee reported, reassured the public: a little more and we will punish the guilty. The Presidential Human Rights Council wrote reports, discussing them for hours with President Medvedev. He was indignant, gave instructions to the head of the Investigative Committee Bastrykin. He, in turn, created working groups together with human rights activists, even appointed an expert group in order to find out whether Magnitsky was subjected to torture in Butyrka. It all ended in fluff. And the feeling is the worst.
The criminal case on the death of Sergei Magnitsky is practically closed. On the other hand, it was resumed against him: even after his death, he is accused of tax evasion. At the same time, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs refer to the decision of the Constitutional Court. Our law enforcement officers absolutely do not care that the Constitutional Court recently clarified: when resuming the case, we can only talk about the rehabilitation of the deceased, and only if relatives wish ...
In our case, the opposite is true: the relatives are against it, but the Ministry of Internal Affairs is just seeking the conviction of the Hermitage Capital lawyer in order to turn the arrows on him: Magnitsky is a criminal, and if he died in a pre-trial detention center, that’s what he needs, it’s his own fault.
A typical reception of thimblers. They didn't expect anything else from them.
