The European Court of Human Rights communicated the second complaint of Daria Polyudova, convicted of calls for extremism (Article 280 of the Criminal Code) and separatism (Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by RBC with reference to lawyer Alexander Popkov.
The court combined Polyudova's two complaints - about the arrest and about the unfair sentence. The activist believes that the Russian authorities violated Article 5 of the European Convention (the right to freedom and security of person) and Article 10 (freedom of expression).
The ECHR demanded that Russia answer whether Polyudova’s detention was justified and whether this was a violation of her right to freedom and personal integrity. The court also asked the Russian authorities whether the sentence violated her freedom of expression.
On October 20, 2017, Daria Polyudova was released .
On December 21, 2015, Polyudova was sentenced to two years in prison in a penal colony for publications on the social network VKontakte. The court considered them calls for extremism and separatism.
