One of the grounds for extending Chiygozu’s arrest was that, according to the court, he “maintains relations with the leaders of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Chubarov and Dzhemilev, who, being on the territory of Ukraine, are actively anti-Russian activities aimed at destabilizing the political situation in the Republic Crimea".

On April 15, Chiygoz was officially charged with organizing mass riots in Simferopol on February 26, 2014.
