No, not because his last thousand rubles will now be taken away from him. And not because he lost this trial - “those born in the USSR” are no strangers. Perhaps, only the fact that the convicted person (with emphasis on the first syllable!) was convicted in the USSR for fighting punitive psychiatry - which means familiarity with the subject - is reassuring...

Indeed, from the entire article “As an anti-adviser to an anti-adviser,” the court ruled that one phrase must be refuted: “Your Motherland is not Russia, but the Soviet Union. Your country, thank God, has been gone for 18 years.”

How can I refute this, tell me? How?

However, in that very country, which, according to the court decision, to this day drags out a posthumous existence, something different happened, regardless of the weather: frost, thaw...

Another convicted film writer, Valery Yakovlevich Frid (unfortunately deceased), recalled one relevant story in his memoirs “58 and a Half.” It was the spring of 1953.

“An engineer from the automobile plant was sitting with us. Stalin. He was imprisoned as a member of a nationalist organization created by Solomon Mikhoels. When, years after the murder of the People's Artist, Mikhoels began to be called in the press again an honest Soviet patriot and an outstanding public figure, the delighted engineer sent a complaint to Moscow. He asked to reconsider his case, since the only point of accusation was that he was personally recruited by Mikhoels. And now that it has become clear... – etc., etc.

About two months later, the head of the special unit, Captain Khristenko, summoned him and announced that a refusal had come from Moscow: there were no grounds for reconsidering the case. So you need to sign: the answer has been received.

- How is there no reason? — The engineer almost cried. “After all, I was only accused of being recruited by Mikhoels.” Now I hear on the radio that he is an honest patriot and an outstanding figure - but they have no reason!.. Where is the logic?

Khristenko was a man with humor. He said, “You know what? Just sign for now, and they’ll send you the logic later.”
