Punished for meanness

The Magistrate Court of the Khamovnichesky District of Moscow sentenced Konstantin Pereverzev, who hit the head of the Moscow Helsinki Group Lyudmila Alekseeva, to a year of suspended imprisonment with a probationary period of one year. Pereverzev hit Alekseeva on March 31, when she came to the Park Kultury metro station to lay flowers in memory of those killed in the explosion on March 29. Pereverzev stated that he was drunk, although on the day of the attack both Alekseev and many witnesses claimed that this was not the case. Alekseeva asked the court not to isolate Pereverzev from society and, if they collect a fine from him, it would be no more than a symbolic ruble - Pereverzev supports his disabled mother, and the human rights activist did not want him to be sentenced to any significant fine. The sentence suited her. At the trial, Pereverzev asked her for forgiveness.
