Candidate from "The People"

The founding conference of the national Russian liberation movement "People" was held in Moscow. The co-chairs of the movement were activist of the Other Russia Sergei Gulyaev, deputy chairman of the Moscow branch of Yabloko Alexei Navalny and Nizhny Novgorod nationalist Bolshevik writer Zakhar Prilepin. The political council of “The People” included 11 people, including communist Pyotr Miloserdov and political scientist Pavel Svyatenkov. One of the most interesting results of the conference was the decision to nominate Sergei Gulyaev as a presidential candidate. Earlier, speaking about his possible nomination, Gulyaev emphasized that “People” was not created for this purpose and his possible participation in the presidential election race is only a particularity. His colleague from “The People” Alexey Navalny and political scientist Stanislav Belokovsky have already spoken positively about Gulyaev’s candidacy - the main argument is that the opposition needs new, not yet boring faces, and Sergei Gulyaev is a charismatic leader, and also a “real fighter”, which he has proven more than once during the St. Petersburg “March of Dissent”. It is possible that Sergei Gulyaev may become a single candidate from the “Other Russia” opposition coalition.
