The State Duma excluded the heads of Russian regions from the category of persons eligible for deferment from the army. The corresponding amendments to the law “On Military Duty and Military Service” were adopted in the third final reading on February 26. In order not to disrupt the confident progress of military reform, the deputies readily adopted the law, without being at all embarrassed by its absurdity. According to current legislation, the governor's office can be held only after reaching 30 years of age, and a deferment from military service is granted up to 27 years.
