The parishes of the Lviv diocese of the UAOC sent letters to President Yushchenko and members of the government asking them to “protect the UAOC from new political experiments with unification into a single local Church.” The terms of the unification are dictated by the Kiev Patriarchate, which is supported by certain forces in the power structures. But the largest dioceses of the UAOC - Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk - are threatening that they will not take part in the council. This means that their bishops did not receive guarantees that they would remain in their places.
