Today, at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Poland refused to lift its veto on the decision to begin negotiations between the EU and Russia. This puts the negotiations at a dead end; many EU countries do not agree with this decision. The Poles demand that Russia ratify the European Economic Charter, which we once rashly signed, but categorically do not want to ratify. The whole point is that if the agreement comes into force, Russia will have to provide foreigners with access to the holy of holies: gas and oil pipes, and we do not want this.
