Latvian parliamentarians who prefer to speak Russian have retained this right, despite attempts by the far-right Fatherland and Freedom party to deprive them of this opportunity. The Sejm voted against the ban on the use of foreign languages, including Russian, in the work of parliament. Representatives of the left parties, who unanimously supported this position, stated that, unlike state institutions where special language legislation is in force, parliament is a “people's tribune”, and all the peoples of Latvia have the right to express their thoughts here.
