Late in the evening of December 15, the founder of the Chernovik newspaper, published in Dagestan, Khadzhimurad Kamalov, was killed. As the Caucasian Knot reports, the murder was committed near the publication’s office - Kamalov went outside to see his friend off. He was shot 14 times. According to preliminary data, one person shot, he was wearing a mask. The online publication notes that this method of murder is not typical for militants.

The murder was committed on Remembrance Day for journalists who died in the performance of their professional duties, the Caucasian Knot notes. The publication also recalls that in September 2009, leaflets began to be distributed in Makhachkala, the anonymous authors of which threatened that they would deliberately “destroy bandits.” The text of the leaflets mentioned “militant accomplices”; Kamalov was named among them, as well as seven other journalists.
