We are waiting for a response from Europe

On March 4, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg will consider the case “NK YUKOS v. Russian Federation”. Former shareholders of the oil company claim that Russian authorities deliberately brought unfounded tax claims against Yukos in order to bankrupt it. The plaintiffs are demanding $98 billion from Russia.

This is a rare case where the Strasbourg court conducts direct hearings rather than limiting itself to written proceedings.

The hearing on the YUKOS case in Strasbourg was postponed more than once: first, the permanent judge from Russia Anatoly Kovler recused himself, then his replacement Valery Musin called in sick. Now Musin is a member of the board of directors of Gazprom, and his place in the European Court is taken by Andrei Bushev, who, however, also managed to call in sick at the right moment so that the meeting would not take place.
