The Synodal Department for Relations between Church and Society has come up with another public initiative - it has drawn up a document called “Eternal Values - the Basis of Russian Identity” and calls for its discussion, Interfax-Religion reports.
“This is the fruit of discussions that we had with a number of political parties, social strata of our country. In the future, we would be grateful for the reaction to this list, something, perhaps, should be added to it, something is worth it, obviously , modify, maybe something should be excluded from it,” said the head of the department, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, presenting the Code at a round table in Moscow.
According to the priest himself, the title of the document, “Eternal Values - the Basis of Russian Identity,” is “quite ambitious.” At the same time, we are not talking about values that are important due to their long history or effectiveness in the current political and economic moment. The criterion for the truth of these values was “their rootedness in God’s truth and in the experience of life, which, despite all the conservation and modernization, remained constant for Russia.”
Topping the list is justice, understood as political equality, honesty of courts, and responsibility of leaders. Justice, as understood by the authors of the document, is implemented as social guarantees; it requires overcoming poverty and corruption and presupposes a worthy place for every person in society and for the entire nation in the system of international relations.
The second value is freedom, and we are talking about personal and individual freedom: freedom of enterprise, freedom of speech, religion, choice of place of residence and occupation; and about general, national freedom: about independence, independence, and identity of the Russian people.
The third value is solidarity, understood as the ability to share with others the burden of their worries, difficulties, illnesses, sorrows, as well as national solidarity as a force that binds the people, ensuring the unity of the nation, its integrity, and vitality.
The fourth value is conciliarity, which means the unity of government and society in working for the good of the country and people, the unity of diverse cultures, the harmonious combination of spiritual aspirations and material interests of the individual and society, the moral responsibility of the individual to his neighbors and society.
The fifth value is self-restraint and sacrifice, that is, rejection of selfishness, consumerism towards neighbors and the world around us, the ability to sacrifice personal things for the good of one’s neighbor and the Fatherland.
And finally - patriotism, faith in Russia, deep affection for the native land, its culture, willingness to work for the sake of the Motherland.
Next comes the value of human good, his well-being and dignity. The spiritual and material well-being of a person is understood as the main priority of social development and respect for human rights.
The list is completed by family values - love and loyalty, care for younger and older people.
After all, very creative people work at the OVCO, no matter what the apostles do.
