Aeroflot General Director Valery Okulov resigned, Gazeta.ru reports with reference to his own source in the Council of Directors of the Company.
The fact that the leadership of Aeroflot can be replaced at the end of March previously reported Kommersant. The main candidate for Okulov was called the Vice President of AFK "System" Vitaly Savelyev. In the mid-1990s, he headed the Bank "Russia". According to the publication, the decision to resign Okulov, who headed Aeroflot for 12 years, was accepted "at the highest level."
Okulov began work in Aeroflot by the navigator, since 1995 he was a member of the board of directors of the company, and in 1997 he became a general director. Then his quick career growth was explained by kinship with President Boris Yeltsin: Okulov was married to his daughter Elena. However, after the resignation of Yeltsin in 2000, Okulov remained the general director of Aeroflot. Rumors that he could leave the company was the last intensified in the summer of last year, when the company left the long -term chairman of its board of directors, Assistant President Viktor Ivanov, appointed head of the State Directory Control. It was with the support of Ivanov that one of the interlocutors of Kommersant explained the duration of Okulov’s stay as the general director of Aeroflot.
Last year, according to Kommersant, Okulov began to receive proposals for a change of work. The Minister of Transport Igor Levitin invited him to head the Federal Air Transport Agency instead of the resigned of Yevgeny Bachurin, but Okulov refused. According to a source familiar with the situation in Aeroflot, the last proposal that Okulov received was to take the recently introduced post of deputy minister of transport responsible for aviation. The head of Aeroflot refused again because "does not want to work as an official."
Savelyev’s choice of Kommersant's sources explained him with its proximity to the Kremlin: in 1993-1995, the top manager served as chairman of the Board of the Bank of Russia, then worked in Menatep St. Petersburg, and in 2004-2007 he held the post of deputy minister of economic development.
