Otto Pine was born in 1928 in Westphalia, studied painting at the Munich Academy of Arts and philosophy at the University of Cologne. Subsequently, he taught at the University of Pennsylvania and headed the Center for advanced studies of visual perception of the Massachusetts Technological Institute.

In 1957, together with Khinets Mak Otto Pina founded the Zero group, later Gunther Yucker joined it. The group was opposed by abstract expressionism, which dominated in post -war German painting, new artistic principles and became famous for art experiments using light, shadows, air and fire.

In the late 1960s, Pine developed the Sky Art concept, according to which the city landscape became part of his work. In 1972, for the closing ceremony of the Olympiad in Munich, the artist created in the sky an “Olympic rainbow” of multi-colored 600-meter plastic tubes with helium. In the 1980s, Pine arranged Sky Art performance in different cities in Europe and the USA.

The works of Otto Pine are included in the collection of the largest art museums in the world.

On July 17, in Berlin , the exhibition “Otto Piene. More Sky. " Within the framework of the exhibition in the New National Gallery, the performance “The Sun is approaching” ( Die Sonne Kommt Näher ) at night, during which the images of more than a thousand glass plates painted manually are projected on eight -meter screens.

In October of this year, a large exhibition dedicated to the Zero group will open in the New York Museum of Solomon Guggenheim.
