The archive of electronic preprints arXiv.org has existed for more than twenty years. There are more and more articles in it, and the number of areas covered by the archive is also increasing. At the beginning of 2014, it was clear that in about a year the archive would grow enough to overcome the barrier of a million e-prints. Everyone was wondering: will they make it in time for the New Year? We didn’t make it in time for Christmas (December 25), but right after - yes! In the penultimate issue of the archive for 2014, the millionth e-print appeared. The growth of the archive is so significant that starting from the new year the numbering has been changed again. Now the article number per month will be five digits, since there is a high probability that in 2015 more than 10 thousand articles will appear per month.
A growing archive is good. True, criticism is also growing. In various communities of scientists, there are more and more complaints about the strange actions of moderators who delay the publication of articles or even remove articles (and not according to criteria related to scientific value, not because of errors, etc.). At the same time, there is no sane description of the rules, and feedback does not always work well. Therefore, sometimes the actions of moderators seem random. This is quite sad, since there is no alternative to the archive yet. Let us, however, hope that everything will work out. And let's raise our glasses on the occasion of the millionth e-print.
