Of course, in Russia there have always been enough people ready to beat anyone with a different nose shape, not to mention the shape of the eyes or the color of the skin. But there are others along with them. And it's nice that in the vastness of the virtual space there were more of these "others".

It all started with a well-known case, when on October 3, the hosting (that is, providing site hosting services) company GarantHost.Ru announced that it was terminating services to Georgian citizens, as well as cooperation with a certain Georgian web studio. And that gave rise to a bunch of questions: is this another performance in the national Russian sport “running ahead of the locomotive”?

When people related to politics, or government officials in general, take part in such competitions, this is partly understandable: they expect certain benefits. When a private Internet company does this, its motives are absolutely incomprehensible: are they waiting for tax benefits from their act? Or do they really have such an “active social policy and civic position” (quote from the statement of GarantHost.Ru)?

Here is one possible, but very likely explanation for this story. On the GarantHost blog. Ru, among other responses, attention was drawn to the name mentioned several times, for example: “I wonder what Vadim VERDIYAN, co-founder of the GarantHost.Ru company, will say if Vovochka Putin decides to “wet in the toilet” not Georgians, but Armenians? Will it also bend and refuse hosting for Armenian sites?” (someone Leftman). And then everything fell into place.

The fact is that Vadim Verdiyan is a well-known Internet marketing specialist who actively promotes the concept of the so-called. "guerrilla marketing" (its essence is the maximum use of "word of mouth"). That is, all this was just an advertising campaign, a way to light up according to the principle "any publication is an advertisement, except for an obituary." If this is indeed the case, then the situation is even worse than if the leadership of GarantHost. Ru sincerely supported the anti-Georgian campaign of the authorities. No comments are required, I just want to address those who supported this action of the company there, in the blog: “Gentlemen! Cool down, you are being bred like suckers ... ".

And it is all the more pleasant that the "civil position" was revealed not only by GarantHost.Ru. Replicated through the media, including on television, the action caused such a stormy response in Runet (in the mentioned corporate blog, according to my calculations, the number of those who supported is about 1: 4 strongly condemned) that in less than a week the company was forced to make excuses. From her explanations, however, it remains unclear how a web studio, even a Georgian one, can turn out to be "leading an active anti-Russian policy and thereby inciting ethnic hatred." In my opinion, the interests of web studios lie in several other areas, but who will check now?

But the story didn't end there. Outraged by the actions of colleagues, the provider Hostovik.Ru announced a 50% discount on almost any tariff to everyone who joins the “I am a Georgian” campaign, placing a corresponding badge on its resource. With the support of this company, a special website ya-gruzin.ru was opened. And representatives of a fairly solid hosting company Plusweb.ru opened for all those affected by actions similar to the action of GarantHost.Ru the opportunity to receive absolutely free hosting under the tariff with the defiant name "Georgian+". Moreover, Plusweb.ru specifically motivated this action in exactly the same terms: “…confirming its active social policy and civic position…”.

Interestingly, GarantHost.Ru servers are located in the USA. No comments.
