Crimean Tatars are suspected of sabotage on the gas pipeline between Simferopol and Yalta. Is this another round of repression?

In Crimea, five people were detained on suspicion of sabotage on the gas pipeline, including the deputy chairman of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people (the organization was recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation) Nariman Jelal. The FSB claims that the detainees damaged the pipe on the instructions of Ukrainian intelligence. The Crimean Tatars themselves talk about a political motive in a new criminal case against their compatriots.

Abduction and detention

On August 23, the Crimean Ministry of Internal Affairs reported damage to the gas pipeline in the village of Perevalnaya between Simferopol and Yalta. The department did not give any details of the incident, the press service only clarified that the damage could occur "due to unlawful actions of unidentified persons."

The next one and a half weeks about what happened was nothing, and on the morning of September 3, the security forces came with a search of the entrepreneur Eldar Odamanov.

The search was carried out on the basis of a court order, in which it was a “explosion of the gas pipeline”. During the investigative actions, the entrepreneur was selected from the whole family of the entrepreneur so that they could not call anyone. As a result, Odamanov seized two laptops, two phlos and flash cards. The operatives informed his wife that he had taken him to the police department of the Central District of Simferopol. When she called this department, she was informed that her husband was not brought there. He was not in the local departments of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The wife went to the central police department and wrote a statement of abduction. Lawyer Emil Kurbedinov, who checked all the regional regions, the FSB department and a special receiver, joined the search. Odamanov was not anywhere. Then Kurbedinov wrote statements about the abduction to all law enforcement agencies, including the military prosecutor's office in Crimea and in Moscow.

The next day, on the morning of September 4, the security forces came to the houses to the cousins ​​of Asan and Aziz Akhtemov. The first lived in the village of Levada Simferopol district, worked as a driver of the editor-in-chief of the Crimean Tatar newspaper Avdet, for which he previously wrote. The second - a resident of the village of Pervomaiskskoye Simferopol district - was engaged in car repair. They, like Odamanova, were taken away in an unknown direction after a search. During the search, all equipment was seized. Their relatives could not find them. A similar fate befell the Useinov Shevket, a friend of Eldar Odamanov, who worked as a loader at his enterprise. Families of all three wrote statements about abduction at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the prosecutor's office.

In the same morning they came for the deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people-Nariman Jelal. He recently returned from Kyiv, where he participated in the Constituent Summit of the “Crimean platform” - the diplomatic initiative of Ukraine related to the return of control over the Crimea.

“I rode after them for a long time, but each time the escort car blocked my way. This ended only when the dark blue van disappeared from my field of vision, ”Avamilyov explained to Novaya Gazeta.

The wife of Jelyal appealed to law enforcement agencies with a statement of abduction. The FSB refused to accept it.

Already in the evening of September 4, about 60 Crimean Tatars, among whom were relatives of the abducted, lawyers and activists of the Crimean Solidarity human rights organization, gathered at the UFSB building on the Crimea on Franco Boulevard in Simferopol. The police asked them to disperse, referring to quarantine measures. People retreated from each other one and a half meters, but no one left.

After 20 minutes, the Rosguard bus drove up. The fighters began to detain everyone indiscriminately.

As a result, about 40 people were detained. They were relieved along three different ATSs. Lawyers went for them. To everyone who was not detained, they came the next day. In total, the Ministry of Internal Affairs instituted 58 administrative cases. Most of them ended in administrative arrests. Protection without an agreement

In the evening, investigator Vitaly Vlasov told lawyer Islyama Vellyaev that all five detainees were in the FSB department. Neither their procedural status, nor what investigative actions carry them out, explained. Akhtemov independent lawyers failed to get a meeting with the detained brothers - the state allocated them to their appointments for their intended purpose. The FSB investigator said that both of them abandoned the defenders by agreement.

The only one who managed to meet his lawyer was Nariman Jelal. He signed an agreement with Emina Avamileva and told her that he spent almost a day without food and water, with a bag on his head and handcuffs. Referring to the words of her client, Emina said that he was in the basement in an unknown place. From there he was transported to the FSB department.

Special services reported that Aziza and Asan Akhtemovs were suspected of sabotage at the gas pipeline in Perevalnaya, and Nariman Jelya - in its complicity. The maximum sanction for this crime provides for up to 20 years in prison. On September 6, the Kyiv District Court of Simferopol sent all three suspects into custody.

“I could undergo this criminal persecution since 2014, but each time, despite such threats and requests to leave the territory of Crimea from my friends, I returned home to my homeland. Recently I visited the Constituent Summit of the Crimean Platform, which is extremely negatively assessed by the Russian authorities. There were public statements by the leadership of Crimea on the persecution of participants in the Crimean Platform, but, despite such statements and threats, I returned home. I do not have a single thought that, despite the existing state of affairs, namely my criminal case with which I absolutely disagree, I have not the slightest desire to leave the Crimea and my own house, ”said Nariman Jelal, speaking at the trial.

Eldar Odamanov and Shevket Useinov were given for 14 and 15 days, respectively. Odamanova’s lawyer Lily Gemes is sure that in this way the investigation is trying to win time.

“I think they did this in order not to show who was detained. He was released from the FSB so that the police draw up a protocol for him for a formal reason and to have time to form a criminal case against him. I hope that this time this will not happen, but from experience I can say that this often happens, ”the lawyer explained.

She said that the meeting on the administrative case of Odamanov lasted less than ten minutes, and the court refused in all the petitions of the defense.

Intelligence or politics?

“The diversion case looks absolutely absurd to me. I know Nariman well. He has a fundamental position regarding the use of any power methods. Given that all the detainees disappeared for a day and did not have protection, there is a reason to doubt the official version, ”says the Crimean Tatar human rights activist Lutfi Zudiev.

According to her, most of the procedural documents regarding Nariman Jael were compiled late at night when he could still be in the FSB department. Zudieva believes that this time was needed by special services employees in order to knock out confessions from the suspects and come to the court with specific documents. She is sure that the case is clearly political in nature and is connected with the activities of Jelal.

“Since 2014, Majlis has held the position of non -participation in the elections, since they do not consider this process legitimate. It seems to me that a demonstrative criminal case against Jelal is a blow to the numerous members of the Mejlis in Crimea and an attempt in any way to get people to polling stations in the fall of this year, ”the human rights activist said.
