When the stage had already ceased to expect something more or less worthy of attention from young playwrights, when she elevated Olga Mukhina, Evgeny Grishkovets and Maxim Kurochkin to the rank of the last of the Mohicans, he appeared - 24-year-old Vasily Sigarev from Nizhny Tagil, a student of Nikolai Kolyada.
He brought modern life back to the stage. He cleansed the frozen theatrical language with the living filth of the street language. Like a glove, like a rose, like a burning match, he threw her reckless sincerity and clumsiness of the real. Not counting on reciprocity from an excess of careless generosity.
The play Claudel Models was recognized as the best not only by the “defeated teacher”. Claudel Models is the winner of last year's Antibooker ($12,000) and Debut ($2,000). This story consists not only of a juicy obscenity, a series of rapes and pathos of an emergency on a regional scale, it is complicated and at the same time cleared by a barely outlined atmosphere of eternity in every word, in every situation.
Director Kirill Serebryannikov did not use a single chance to promote Claudel Models for cool erotica or flashy social media. Instead, he spoke about the trembling human string in a 14-year-old teenager, whom his mother raped, and then two more men, and who is “wet” at every step for normality and an adequate reaction to the lead abomination of life. Claudel Modeling could have become vulgarity, banter and rudeness, but it didn't.
Maxim is a modern hero, Werther, Pechorin, Onegin, the son of the 2001 regiment, a pure crystal of a living soul, not dressed up in a postmodern collage, not packaged in a staged stream of consciousness. He was tired as soon as he was born. His willingness to explode at the question "what time is it?" - a simple and accurate description of not only a person at 14 years old. In response to the injustice of the world, amazing plasticine figures mercilessly roll into a symbol of protest - a large plasticine member.
Andrei Kuzichev, who plays Maxim, is a 100% star, the Russian Johnny Depp, the embodiment of a lone hero, but fragile and touching, ideally fitting into the role of a forcedly introverted baby who lives as a pecked white crow. Victor Bertier, who plays the teacher, embodies the world's evil for the semi-childish consciousness with his arrogance and rudeness, he is truly comical and terrible at the same time. The sharp and nervous Victoria Tolstoganova is the personification of an undine, an undercurrent, an otherworldly laugh.
The whole trinity also plays in the play "Shopping and Fucking" based on the play by the modern English playwright Mark Ravenhill, which is related to Claudel Models by the scandalous form and topics covered. But shopping lacks honest despair from the unbearable heaviness-lightness of being, the potential for understatement and depth.
And we were lucky. We waited.
