Low start. What strategies should adhere to university graduates who entered the labor market this year, - The New Times understood
The end of summer and the beginning of autumn is the usual time for the employment of graduates. However, this year it is not the most suitable for these purposes. Labor market experts warn: crisis autumn will bring a new wave of abbreviations. This means that 150 thousand graduates of Russian universities should prepare for a serious struggle for jobs.
* * About problems with the employment of graduates of The New Times wrote in No. 21 of June 1, 2009. Without experience and complaints, what can yesterday’s student count on if 6.3 million of our citizens (8.3% of the economically active population), most with experience and experience, according to the Federal State Statistics Service, are actively looking for work? “It will be difficult for graduates of this year to find her,” says Mikhail Zhukov, General Director of the Headhunter group of companies. - Now on average about 12 people apply for one vacancy for students and graduates. For comparison: last summer there were 3 people in place. ” For example, in the “Finance/ Banks/ Investments” section, the HeadHunter portal has 2312 resumes against only 100 vacancies. It doesn’t matter in the field of jurisprudence, marketing, advertising and PR, automobile business. “The most difficult specialists will have to be in insurance, auto business and finances,” comments Mikhail Zhukov. “And most of all the chances of finding work with young specialists without experience in sales, call centers, as well as in the field of IT and telecommunications.”
“The advantage is now with technical specialists, not the humanities,” confirms the head of the project Rabota.ru Evgenia Shatilova. - We need ITishniki, engineers. Only you will have to start anyway from the lower positions and low salaries. ” According to Shatilova, there are companies and areas where newcomers are traditionally welcome: these are international corporations (for example, P&G, Danone), who conduct special internships and grow personnel “for themselves”. According to polls conducted by the Superjob research center among employers, 54% of them are ready to accept graduates without work experience. Most often, they are offered positions of trade representatives, consultants, merchandisers, call center operators. “The main thing is that the young man would like to work, is ready to improve his qualifications and put forward realistic salary requirements,” says Alexey Zakharov, president of the Superjob.ru recruiting portal.
It is precisely high salary expectations that can play an angry joke with the current graduates. According to HeadHunter, compared to 2008, salaries sharply (by 10–20%) decreased in almost all sectors, especially in the field of marketing, finance and administrative personnel, information technology. For example, in the IT sector, the salary offered to beginners fell from $ 800 to $ 600, in the financial sector-from $ 700 to $ 600, in marketing-from $ 600 to $ 500.
Moderate salary appetites, according to recruiters, can become the main argument when getting yesterday's graduate. “There are offers on the market, and in sufficient quantities. You just need to understand for yourself that the market has changed and the initial salary in the “piece of bucks” for most graduates in the past, ”advises Miron Goldman, managing partner of Huntexpert.ru. - You need to try to get on any conditions in a large, developed company and start a career as soon as possible. Those who choose such a strategy for employment will very soon win before those who do not want to “sink” at the cost. “Now for Moscow, the market salary of a specialist without experience for the position“ Assistant Accountant ”,“ Assistant Manager ”is 15–20 thousand rubles,“ Call operator ”-13-18 thousand rubles. For regions, these figures are 20-50% lower, ”adds Alexei Zakharov. Apparently, yesterday's students look at the situation quite soberly. This is also confirmed by an analysis of more than 50 thousand resumes and vacancies located on the HeadHunter portal: if in the summer of 2008, applicants for places in finance and banks expected to get $ 1 thousand, then in the summer of 2009 - within $ 750, in jurisprudence of expectations fell from $ 1050 to $ 800, in the field of marketing and sales - from $ 900 - from $ 900 up to $ 750.
For beginners , “do not wait for the beginners that the situation in the labor market will change for the better,” says Miron Goldman. “According to statistics, no more than 30% of people work according to the profile of the resulting education, but at the same time make a wonderful career and are happy.” “It would be strange to retrain, only having graduated from the university,” says Evgenia Shatilova. - If you want to work in your specialty, look for vacancies in the “YOUR” sites and quickly respond to them, setting your resume to a specific position. Contact employers directly to special personnel centers at universities and youth employment services. And if you want money right now, go to the sales sector: there is a certain place there. ”
This is exactly what the graduate of the Faculty of Cybernetics of MIREA Dmitry Paramonov did. In the 2nd year, at the invitation of friends, he got a job at a private music store. Having worked there for two years, Dmitry realized that he began to understand the products that he trade well, and that this lesson for him is much more interesting than studying automated control systems. With the beginning of the crisis, according to Dmitry, they did not fired anyone in the store, on the contrary, they took another employee: it turned out that in connection with financial difficulties, citizens remembered vinyl records, players, old musical instruments and carried them out for sale. As Vyacheslav Skolyapov, Deputy Head of the Information Department of the Moscow Department of Labor and Employment, told The New Times, back in April, the employment service with the participation of the Council of the Moscow Universities of Moscow was concerned with the employment of university graduates and “Granderer” of the capital's enterprises. There were many vacancies - 14,900. For example, about 1,400 - in the construction complex, about 1 thousand - in the education system, 1900 - in
Health, 1500 - in trade. At the same time, the salary, by crisis standards, was quite decent in these places - 20–25 thousand rubles. Graduates in the province, by the way, can only dream of such money.
