On that day, the ultras of the Chernomorets and Metalist teams planned to go through the pro -Ukrainian march in the center of Odessa. The first confrontation between them and the armed group of the "anti -Maidan" occurred near Greek Square. Going around, through Deribasovskaya and Lane, Vice Admiral Zhukov, the Euro-Maidanians met the group of Vitaly Keko, known as the boatswain, who opened firing from a carbine.
The representative of self -defense Igor Babayan was the first to be seriously wounded. Behind the shield with which he closed, they abandoned the grenade, she exploded at the neck. Several operations saved his life.
- Most of the police were waiting for the proclamation of the "Odessa People's Republic."
- ( continues ) Rashi minions behind them began an advance on a peaceful procession using homemade grenades, firearms. I had only a wooden stick and a shield, like all the guys from the former self -defense of the city, ”says Igor Babayan to the Gromadsky correspondent.
The clashes on Greek Square lasted about three hours. The first dead on that day were Igor Ivanov and Andrei Biryukov. 230 people were officially injured. The police, according to the participants in the events, almost did not intervene.
- Mr. Fucheegi ( former chief of public security police. Odessa. - Ed. ), Responsible for this, was a very careful and very neutral person. His favorite phrase subordinates: why are you interfering? Who knows what will be here, what power will be, what colors will be? " - says the journalist and member of the “Group 2 of May” Sergey Dibrov ( “Group 2 May” - activists, journalists, experts and former law enforcement officers who were united to conduct their own independent investigation of events * - ed. *).
When it became a little calmer in Greek Square, the leader of the Maidanovtsev Andrei Yusov called his own on Kulikovo, where the Anti -Maidan camp was located. Its participants barricaded in the house of trade unions. Already on the spot, the Maidanians began to smash and burn the left tents left ... At some point, the house of trade unions caught fire. The people who were there tried to escape on the roof, ten people died, jumping out of the windows. Among them - Vyacheslav Markin and Vadim Papura.
The order to leave the firefighters was given only 25 minutes after the first message about the fire, as evidenced by the negotiations published by reporters from the call center of the Ministry of Emergencies. Former investigator in the case Ruslan Sushko (he led the “May 2 case” until 2016) says that the investigation also found out that the then head of the Ministry of Emergencies Vladimir Bodalan could deliberately not direct his subordinates to extinguish the fire.
“If you compare the videos with audio recordings, it can be seen that when Bodalan gives an order not to leave the outfits to the fire, he at that time stands in front of the house of trade unions and watches the fire,” says Sushko.

The participants of the “Group 2 May”, having restored the chronology of events, found out that there was shooting from the pro -Ukrainian side, but an hour and a half after the first victims. This, in their opinion, proves that the Ukrainian participants in the rally came without firearms, without the intention to confront, and even more so to kill. But later they were forced to defend themselves.
“There is a video when the boatswain opened shooting in the alley of Vice Admiral Zhukov towards the Euromaidanists. Igor Ivanov died from his bullets. And only after an hour and a half, oncoming shooting opened in the area of the Athena shopping center on Greek Square. We patrolled the streets and at about this time detained a car with a large number of firearms, which was taken to the rear of the Euromaidan. There were several pompom rifles, about five pistols converted to firearms. If this weapon fell into the hands of the Euro -Maidanists, I think there could be much more victims, ”says Vladislav Balinsky, a member of the group of the group.
The house of trade unions burned for more than an hour. 42 people were killed. A criminal case was opened at once on several episodes. But most key persons from Anti -Maidan and some law enforcement officers managed to escape.
Ruslan Sushko states that the fire in the house of trade unions was planned, and also says that the cause of at least part of the deaths could not be poisoning not carbon monoxide.
“Traces of chloroform were also found. It itself is not dangerous, but chloroform can be a derivative of substance from the combustion of another. I turned to the expert, presented him with all the conclusions. He said: it is possible that 13 people could die from military poisonous substances. Namely, he called such a terrible word as Fosgen, ”says Sushko.

Such a conclusion was presented to investigators by the doctor of medical sciences of the Department of Military Medicine of Odessa Medical University, which was attracted to the case file. According to Sushko, they refused to consider the version of Fosgen’s poisoning in the prosecutor's office.
Now there are several episodes. In the events on Greek Square, 19 anti -Maidanists took place suspects. In 2017, the court acquitted them for the lack of evidence. 17 people were released, two charges were charged.
In the Nikolaev court, the case of the two organizers of Antimaydan - Sergey Oklokov, nicknamed, Captain Cocoa and Russian Evgeny Mfeedov, is obeyed.
The Malinovsky court of Odessa is listening to the case of the activist of Euromaidan Sergey Khodiyak. He is accused of the murder of Anti-Maidan activist Yevgeny Losinsky, the wound of the editor-in-chief of the Internet publication "Duma" Oleg Konstantinov and police officer. The man himself does not admit his guilt.
The ex-head of the Ministry of Emergencies Vladimir Bodalan is charged with official negligence. Now he, according to the investigation, is hidden in the occupied Crimea. His deputy Ruslan the Great was detained in the summer of 2017.
Cases regarding the negligence of law enforcement officers are investigated by the prosecutor's office. The suspects, including Dmitry Fuchezhi, ex-head of the public security police of Odessa, who received citizenship of the Russian Federation, on the wanted list. The courts regarding his deputy Peter Lutsuuk continue.

The courts continue in relation to law enforcement officers who, on the fourth of May 2014, released the anti -Maidanians detainees for offenses.
In the case of May 2, there are four sentences. One conditional - for five years with a trial period of three years, received the anti -Maidan Oleg Tkachuk, known as Bulbash; Two real ones - six and seven years received Maxim Misevsky and Vasily Kondratenko (fell under the "Law of Savchenko", they were credited for two years in two, so they were released), one thing was closed in connection with the death of the suspect Igor Astakhov. The latter is known for supplying weapons for the Antimaydanists. 14 people are put on the wanted list.
NUMBERS
During the pre -trial investigation of the mass riots on May 2, 2014 in Odessa, as a result of which 48 people were killed, law enforcement officers interrogated more than 1300 witnesses. More than 250 examinations were carried out to establish all the circumstances of the crime. This was reported to the Gromadsky in the prosecutor's office of the Odessa region.Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, 29 people had the status of the accused, and 14 suspects are wanted.
Cases of six participants in the events of May 2 - in court. Regarding four people, there are already accusations under Part 2 of Art. 294 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the organization of mass riots that led to the deaths of people or other serious consequences).
Now, on the consideration of the Court of Appeal of the Nikolaev region, there is an appeal of the prosecutor's office of the region on the acquittal of the Ilyichevsky City Court for the cases of 19 defendants in events on May 2, 2014.
The relatives of the dead "anti -Maidanists" accuse pro -Ukrainian activists. And vice versa. They are afraid to speak on the camera and do not see the point, they say, they have been waiting for the results for five years and no longer believe in the prospects of the investigation.
“The investigation is inhibited, it does not happen as such. Relatives of the dead understand this. But they hope for something. I don’t know for what - ”says a relative of one of the dead anti -Maidanists.
But both sides are sure: there is no political will for an objective investigation.
The ex-head of the Odessa police Dmitry Golovin assures that it is not worth talking about the burial of the case and announces new convictions.
“No matter how anyone expected, there will be all acquittals - this is nonsense. Just a month and a half will pass-and you will see how the events in this matter will turn. There will be court decisions with prosecution sentences, I hope so, ”says Golovin.
Despite the desire of activists, a memorial was never established near the House of Trade Unions. But five years after the tragedy in the courtyard, they arranged a place to relax, they installed barbecues, partially the territory is leased.
