Three gray stories

Today, March 15, in the Moscow Cinema Oktyabr cinema, the Musical Comedy Sing Street (director John Carney) opens the X festival of Irish cinema . This film, telling about the everyday life of a school rock band from Dublin of the 80s, is generally setting the mood of the entire program, collected mainly from a cute and optimistic mainstream (an ideal pair of Sing Street, for example, the hipster musical “Once”, shot also by John Carni). However, there is another movie here - several small, but good (and to varying degrees of evil or sad) films, hidden among a quite festive linep of the festival.

The main Sinefilian event of the festival is, of course, the display of “mammal” Rebecca Daily, one of the main discoveries of recent Rotterdam and “Sandance”. This dull minimalist drama is slowly thickening around the divorce of about forty years, Margaret, which owns the second-hand in Dublin. A rather autistic woman avoids any contacts with people. Even her daily trips to the pool - the only public place that the heroine visits - are furnished as a sortie into enemy territory; Margaret even swims exclusively under water so as not to meet with others. At some point, the woman learns that her 18-year-old son, who lived with her father, was missing-but does not give any signs of sadness (apparently, because he is always sad), and instead takes patronage over the homeless Joya. Joei is also about 18, and he looks exactly like a missing one; It is difficult to understand what feelings she feels for a guy - Margaret carries almost parental care about him with about the same fundamental and compassionate person with whom he feeds homeless cats. Clarity will come a little later, when the body of the heroine’s son is found near the channel and Margaret will direct not maternal feelings at all. Provincial longing, dull interiors, kmar, loneliness, infernal scene of an attack of a stray cat on a baby ... In this film, Dublin seems to be the city of the dead, where you need to run away from immediately - but where?
