On July 4, writer Daniil Granin died in St. Petersburg at the age of 98.

Daniil Alexandrovich Granin was born in 1919 in the village of Volyn (now Kursk region), graduated from the Electromechanical Department of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1940), worked at the Kirov factory, from there went to the front and served until the end of the war in tank forces. In 1946-1950 he worked at Lenenergo and the Research Institute.

The first publication of Granin took place in 1949 - his story was printed in the journal "Star". In 1954, the novel “Seekers” was released, followed by the novels “I will go to a thunderstorm” (1962) and “After the Wedding” (1958), stories, stories, essays, essays, artistic and documentary works-“This strange life” (1974, about the biologist of Alexander Lyubishchev), “Claudia Vilor” (1976) (1987, about the biologist of Nikolai, about the biologist of Nikolai Timofeev-Russian).

The heroes of most works of Granin were scientists, researchers and inventors. The theme of the Great Patriotic War was also important for the writer. In 1977-1981, in collaboration with Ales Adamovich, he wrote the “Blockade Book” - a documentary chronicle of the blockade of Leningrad, a novel about the war “My Lieutenant” (2011) received the Big Book Award in 2012.

Based on 12 books, feature films were shot, on which he worked as a screenwriter.

Many military works of Granin were translated into German and published in Germany. In January 2014, the writer spoke in the Bundestag with a speech about the victims of the Leningrad blockade.

PS Farewell to Daniil Granin will begin in the Tauride Palace of St. Petersburg at 12:00 on July 8, Interfax reports. The funeral will take place on the same day at the Komarovsky cemetery.
