Cultural tradition

Fans of St. Petersburg Zenit released a policy statement in which they outlined their, so to speak, priorities. What players should be recruited and bought for the club, what criteria should they meet? Here are excerpts from this wonderful document:

“...we want from Zenit players outside the football field...

— decent behavior in everyday life, consistent with the cultural norms of St. Petersburg;

— interest in the history of our city and country, respectful attitude towards our values;

“ We don’t want Zenit players to publicly demonstrate their addiction to alcohol or cigarettes.”

You won't find fault, right? But that's not all.

“We are against representatives of sexual minorities playing in Zenit.”

But this is not the end.

“We are not racists, and for us the absence of black players in Zenit is only an important tradition that emphasizes the identity of the club and nothing more. Thanks to its preservation, Zenit has its own identity in the football world, along with a small number of football clubs that have retained their identity.

... We have absolutely nothing against the inhabitants of Africa, South America and any other continents, but at the same time we want Zenit to be played primarily by players who are close in spirit and mentality. Now black players are being imposed on Zenit almost by force, and this only causes a backlash. Let us be who we are."

These are the guys in the cultural capital. Be cultured, don't drink, don't smoke, know the history of the city and love it.
