It's simple

We sat on the air, summing up the results of the United Russia congress. They just couldn’t understand what Gryzlov’s words meant about the fact that the party’s slogans at the present stage would be conservatism and modernization. Because, according to common sense, these words make no sense. But we wanted to find out how their listeners understood - after all, they vote for “ER” with record numbers in all elections. This means that citizens understand the party’s policies. Different people called, different sophisticated formulas tried to give birth. We, too, to the best of our depravity, tried to “shove the impossible” into this “idea.”

And then an uncle called, introducing himself as a member of United Russia and even some of its minor local leaders. And he explained everything simply and intelligibly: “Conservatism is about staying in power. And modernization means that you won’t be raised with a pitchfork.” Like this. Much simpler, indeed.
