The criminal case against a number of Oboronservis officials resulted in the resignation of the Minister of Defense, since Oboronservis is controlled by the ministry. This is a joint-stock company that worked in the interests of the army and navy. Of course, the minister is responsible for what happens there. True, I don’t know how much the minister was immersed and involved in the affairs of Oboronservis today. This should reveal the investigation, then we will know something about it in more detail. So far, from the accusations that have been made in the press and on television, it is unclear how the affairs at Oboronservis affected the state of the armed forces. They talk about business projects: how they bought it cheap, sold it more expensive, and carried it out through their affiliated structures. It does not yet follow from statements made by representatives of the Investigative Committee that these business projects have had a negative impact on the combat readiness of military units.
As for Sergei Shoigu, he is a very authoritative figure, respected in the country and in the army, an energetic and sensible person. I think he will try not to mess things up and continue all the positive things that were done under Serdyukov, and correct the omissions, shortcomings and mistakes that were made under Serdyukov. Such errors, shortcomings and omissions certainly exist; Vladimir Putin wrote about them in an article in Rossiyskaya Gazeta in March of this year, when he argued that military reform requires adjustment. We'll wait and see how the military reform will be adjusted under Sergei Shoigu.
