FSIN takes revenge

The head of the Sverdlovsk regional public organization “Legal Basis” Alexey Sokolov was found guilty of theft and robbery and sentenced to five years in prison in a maximum security colony. Sokolov actively fought against lawlessness in local prisons; he is a member of the supervisory commission of the Public Chamber and made a documentary about violence in the Ural colonies.

In May 2009, Sokolov was arrested while he was walking with his young daughter. According to investigators, Sokolov allegedly participated in the theft of drill pipes in 2001 and the theft of welding equipment in 2004. Testimony against him was given by his so-called accomplices who were in custody.
