Armenian and Azerbaijani troops on Tuesday entered a shootout in the territory of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. According to ITAR-TASS, this was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vartan Oscanyan.

Two Azerbaijani military were killed, ASS television company reports. According to her, the Armed Forces of Armenia went on the offensive.

Both countries accuse each other in violation of the ceasefire.

The Ministry of Defense of Armenia argues that "violation of the ceasefire from the Armenian side is the result of internal tension in the neighboring republic, which arose there after the presidential election."

According to Oscanyan, the shootout "differs from the usual violation of the ceasefire for both the ammunition used and military equipment." He called the incident "quite serious encroachment." Several people were injured on the Armenian side, he noted.

The ceasefire in the zone of the Karabakh conflict has been operating since May 1994.
