In January 2017, the Scientific and Popular JVANTICA ( Kvantik.com ) celebrated his fifth anniversary. We publish comments of authors, artists and those who help this wonderful project.
Natalia Demina
They say that other people's children grow rapidly, especially if they have a warm house, caring parents and faithful friends. The Kwantik magazine, which appeared in the fall of 2011, has become a strong and actively developing project in five years. Against the backdrop of universal pessimism and the advancing obscurantism, the closure of a number of magazines about science and constant organizational difficulties experienced by many other publications, the “quantik” looks like the center of optimism and hope.
For the first five -year plan, the magazine became the finalist of the 2015 fidelity contest, and one of its authors is the geographer Ivan Kobilyakov - a prize laureate for young journalists for a series of cognitive stories for children “12 months of reindeer herder”. In addition to the 60 numbers of the magazine that published in 2012-2016, the editors publishes once every six months of almanacs, every year-a calendar with interesting tasks, actively participates in mathematical holidays and olympiads, holds its contests (about 500 children are participating in mathematical), and is already working on the west advance. In particular, in 2016, the Kwantika calendar was published in German.
But the main success - the magazine managed to conquer the hearts of children and their parents. In the “quantics”, every curious schoolboy can find an article and a matter of strength and soul: from visual mathematics on paper, articles on astronomy, mathematics, history, linguistics, physics and biology, interesting experiments and experiments to the tasks of higher level olympiads. Why does it happen a month, why the clouds from below are flat, how to prove the Pythagoras theorem with scissors, why are the lids of the hatches round, how to make a phone from fishing line and cups, which animals never sleep and how they manage to fold it, how to fold the parabola from a sheet of paper, why is the reflection in the spoon inverted, why there are tides on the ground, like light beetles, why should there Dimensions, how to make a mini-robot, what is the theory of probability? The answers to these and many other questions can be found in “Quantia”.
The editors pay special attention to fun and living illustrations that contribute to scientific knowledge. Luck was the appearance in the orbit of the “quantics” of the artist of Eustas, who, after many hours of searches, managed to find the image of a cheerful inquisitive robot-man. But he himself says that “the quantics was invented by schoolchildren. At night, when the children leave home, he sits in the library and reads smart books, and in the afternoon, when children come to school, he has stories, questions and history, and so he talks with readers. ”

Eustace not only illustrates the covers and articles, but also is responsible for the selection of illustrators. For five years, almost 60 artists became the authors of funny pictures to the “quantics”. “It is they who determine the wonderful face of the magazine,” said Alexander Romanov, a mathematics teacher of the 179th Moscow school.
“How does the idea of drawing appear? Are you given a sketch? " “No, I do not need anything from the author, except for his text. Because everything is already here in my head, ”said Alexei Kapninsky (Kapych), illustrating the column“ Two -thirds of Truth ”.
He jokes that he has been receiving his mathematical education for more than 30 years from his wife-mathematician. “I don’t understand anything in mathematics, I hate puzzles, but I really like the design of the magazine and how the main artist organizes work. Seeing how cheerfully, witty and love my colleagues work with love, I try to grow up to their level. ”
And to write a good article for the “ quantics” is perhaps more difficult than for an adult scientific journal. After all, it should be interesting, meaningful, understandable and without errors. The authors of articles and tasks published in the “Quantik” are already about 200. Since the founder, Kvanta, a mathematics teacher and organizer of various mathematical olympiads Sergey Dorichenko, has been the editor -in -chief. “At first it was hard, and we did not know whether we would succeed. But what was absolutely wonderful - these are the advantages of the new business - what we do what we want and how we want. We do not have any traditions that put pressure on us, or the rules that "we did not have this." We experimented, there were mistakes, but in general, a living business turned out. ”

The magazine is published with the support of the Moscow Center for continuous mathematical education, deputy director of Viktor Furina and director Ivan Yashchenko. The editors are in a cozy room hung with cheerful pictures, in the same MCNMO.
What will be the magazine in five years? Tatyana Petrovna Zorina, a wonderful teacher, believes that the optimal combination of texts and illustrations has been found in the “quantics”. “This is a very harmonious magazine. And he is precisely the thickness that is needed so that the schoolboy reads it to the holes in a month and waits for the next issue. He shouldn't be thicker! "
Peter Volcit, the author of articles and books on biology, suggested that the magazine should have a younger “brother” or “sister” in the form of a “quantik” for preschoolers and younger schoolchildren. “I like the magazine most of all in that you can write smart and complex articles in it, in the sense that the reader needs to think and reflect on them ... And this is very cool because most other modern publications and, unfortunately, go towards entertainment and less seriousness there. In the “quantics” of the reader, they make the head work. ”
If I were asked about the future of the magazine, then I would suggest that at least three friendly publications will be bought from the physicaltings "quantics" for 5-10 years: "quantik for kids", "biokantik" and "robo-quantum" with open boundaries between different areas of sciences; A whole series of children's goodies will appear, from ice cream to chocolate, with the logo of the magazine, children's developmental toys and gadget games.
Probably, all happy editions are similar to each other. In the “quantics”, colleagues sometimes argue with each other, and they have different points of view on some questions, but thanks to their mind and talent, the unusual aspirations led to the fact that the magazine was a success.

Ivan Vysotsky , head. Laboratory of the theory of probabilities and statistics of MCNMO:
- At the “Quantik” festival, you talked about the task dedicated to the traffic light ... What is the history of its appearance?
- The problem about the traffic light was born like that. Once I crossed the intersection in Kazan and saw a traffic light in front of me, counting how many seconds were left before it would be possible to go. I looked at the traffic light, it was written “25 seconds”, looked again - already “26 seconds”! I was very surprised, and after a second I realized what was the matter. And the task is: how is it that a traffic light, counting the time “down” first shows 25, and then 26 seconds? What will happen at a traffic light in a second? And most importantly: how much will you need to stand at a traffic light before you can cross the road?
- And when you make up tasks for the “quantik”, what image of the student do you see in front of you?
- I do not compose tasks for the "quantik". Tasks are born. For example, I am flying on an airplane, and there it is written in front of me on the display that "the flight takes place at an altitude of 36,000 feet." But I think in the feet poorly, the task immediately arises: "How much is it in meters?" We gave such a task in the exam in mathematics, there was a moan throughout the Great Rus'. Or I bought a 51 -inch diagonal TV, and how much is it in centimeters?
Another example: in life there are few situations when something happens quite by accident. Only in tasks on the theory of probability. But I found an example of a completely random generator - this is a washing machine! If you plunge a lot of socks into it, then they are really mixed in a completely random and ugly way. And I sit and disassemble a bunch of socks in pairs. The question is, how many unpaired socks are formed on average before at least one pair in which I will go to work is gathering? Tasks should come from life, this is what gives pleasure, which is not ashamed to send a “quantum”.
- How do you see the “quantik” in five years?
-“Quantik”, from my point of view, is so good that I would be afraid to somehow extrapolate the processes or predict. I would like to see there the heading "Golden tasks of childhood." By the age of 10-12, a certain cultural background accumulates: children's counters, poems that everyone knows. In my childhood, there was a wonderful almanac of tasks published in 1915 and there were a lot of solitaires, anagrams and Sharad. In the same way, I would like the “quantik” to have a section with the mathematical tasks of my or your childhood, “all” childhood.
I think the “quantik” will begin to speak different languages. The quantika calendar has already appeared in German, and I can’t understand why the magazine does not yet speak English, Chinese, Japanese, and so on. I am applying all sorts of efforts to this. I really want a whole section on the artistic and mathematical origami to appear in the “quantics”. There are people who devote a whole life to this, serious fat magazines about Origamika (mathematics + origami) are published. Why don't they write something interesting and entertaining about the “quantik”?
The magazine is only at the beginning of its huge journey. This is a completely unique and amazing phenomenon, anywhere in the world there is no more. We will not make a guess, let's see how it will develop.

Ilya Itkin , linguist and translator, cand. Filol. sciences, Art. scientific. sore. Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Philology of the NRU HSE:
- How long have you been cooperating with the magazine?
- I have been cooperating with the “Quantic” since the end of 2012, at first - mainly as an editor of articles from the section “Miracles of Linguistics”. The idea of the competition in the Russian language, as far as I can judge, arose at the end of 2014 as a “cross” of a similar competition, which we spent several years in the Moscow Moomi-Troll school, and the actual competition of the journal “Quantik”.
- How does the plan of the tasks come?
This process is completely creative and unpredictable. I try to pay attention to any remarkable language phenomena that I meet: far from all of them are turned into a task, but this helps to think in the right direction. I think that in this way, both my friends and colleagues act in this way, without the help of which it would be completely impossible to hold the competition. We focus on schoolchildren (and not only to schoolchildren) who are interested in thinking about the Russian language and solving the problems of “quickness”. Of course, most of the tasks of the competition to a first-grader is more difficult to solve than a ninth grader, but I think that it’s not scary, if it’s not very scary (and in a sense, even, on the contrary, it’s good) and that some participants solve our tasks along with parents, grandparents, and sometimes teachers of the Russian language and literature.
- What kind of task you have invented seems to be the most interesting?
- The task published in this number of the newspaper seems to me one of the most successful. It is quite complicated (nevertheless, many participants in the competition coped with it), has an unexpected wording and beats an interesting and not very well -known fact. The idea arose in strict accordance with what I wrote above: dawned.

Task 17 (Solution see at the end of the article).
Give an example of phrases in which in the middle of one of the words the image of the letters “Ro” can be written once, two, and the meaning of the phrase will remain the same.

Ivan Yashchenko , Director of MCMNO:
- How did the “quantik” appear?
- The idea of the “quantics” was materialized by Sergey Dorichenko, who came with his team, and they said that they wanted to make the younger brother of Kwant magazine. Viktor Furin and I were happy to support and help them. In general, Mtzmno was created in order to maintain different good ideas related to mathematics. Since then, the magazine has been developing, and a wonderful room has started in the MCNMO, where a very cheerful “quantik” lives, and the editors that grow it, sole, cherish and develop. It is very cool that in our electronic age, a paper glossy magazine happens about mathematics! I know the family where the child saw the Quantik magazine and became interested in mathematics.
- How do you see the “quantik” in five years?
- I think that in five years, “Quantik” will have various interactive brothers online, but still there will be a wonderful paper magazine and almanacs.
- Do you think that a biological or robotics magazine will bake from the magazine?
- It all depends on people! And not only the idea or room is important, people are important. If there is a wonderful company of people who want to do something like that, then such a magazine will be born. And here a wonderful company of bright mathematicians formed, who made a cool “quantik”.
Sergey Dorichenko : “I sometimes joke that the magazine took place when the great theorem of the farm comes to him by mail. In the journal Quantum, this proof comes about once a year. And it also entered the “quantik”, so everything is in order with the magazine now. ”
Sergey Fedin , teacher, author of popular science books for adults and children:
- How long have you been cooperating with the magazine?
- I work with Kantik almost from the very beginning. This is the best, from my point of view, a scientific and cognitive magazine for schoolchildren of 1–7 grades. In any case, my first publication in this magazine was in the third issue of Quantica for 2012. The note was called the "leaflet". My other section began with her - “Words”.
- How did the idea of the Two -Thrilies of Truth appeared? How are the plots of truthful and invented stories born?
- The heading appeared long before the appearance of the “Quantik”, around 2002, during a conversation with my friend Vladimir Buslenko. Then I wrote a few triples of stories. For me, the creation of stories breaks up into three approximately equal complexity of the task: a) come up with a puzzle itself, that very hidden “absurdity”; b) build the plot of history; c) literary to describe all this.
As for ideas, I usually have enough half an hour of a brainstorming. Sometimes an occasion can be some random event from which I “squeeze” the task, sometimes these are variations of known puzzles, and sometimes these are the shadows of my tasks, invented for another reason (for example, detective stories about the inspector of the Borg and Sergeant Grum, which I published for several years in the journal “Science and Life” under the pseudonym Dan Silger).
- Which of the stories do you like best?
- There are many of them, among other things, the stories about Disney and Salvador Dali, about Carroll and Vanga, Beethoven and Malevich and about cockroaches, which bring deuces in the diary. By a happy coincidence, a book in the Moscow publishing house Vita-Press published a book, which contains all the three stories. I note that, now, according to a funny coincidence, only two -thirds of the entire collection of stories were published in the “quantics”.

Grigory Feldman , former editor of Kantik magazine, now a programmer engaged in neural networks.
- How long have you been cooperating with the Kvantik? What is the most in the magazine?
- I have worked in the “quantics” from the moment of its founding, from 2011 to 2015. In the magazine, I like several aspects: 1) an attractive format: it is easy to become interested in beautiful pictures and names and in the wave of this fuse to read (and understand!) The whole article; 2) a pleasant aftertaste from stirring with brain during reading. Almost every article has a dry residue in the head; 3) selection of plots, tasks, pictures and texts.
- What task or article published in the magazine are you most proud of?
- I worked more as an editor than the author, so I will not tell about my articles. “Quantik” does not exist on its own, but as a product of multifaceted and many years of activity of the community of people who write scientific scientists organizing the Olympiads and circles, etc. Therefore, a considerable part of the articles are elegant variations on the topic of olympiad tasks and well -known plots. But for most of the students, all these tasks and plots are unknown - why not learn about them from the bright, interesting “quantics”?
A good example is the task from No. 6 “Quantik” for 2012 is an article by Alexander Berdnikov “ground coffee”. In the jar, it is necessary to fall asleep as much (by weight) coffee. What to do: grind coffee or fall asleep?
The answer is a little paradoxical: both ground and solid coffee will fit in the same weight! The reason is simple.
