The Sverdlovsk Regional Court considered the appeal of the sentence to the Yekaterinburg video blogger Ruslan Sokolovsky. The term of his conditional punishment has been reduced from three years and six months to two years and three months, RIA Novosti reports .

The sentence is excluded from the verdict of illegal storage of a special tool - a handle with a video camera. The court upheld the punishment for insulting the feelings of believers and exciting hatred of Christianity and Islam.

On May 11, the judge of the Verkh-Isetsky District Court Ekaterina Shoponyak found Sokolovsky guilty and sentenced to three and a half years of conditional term . At the same time, the prosecutor Ekaterina Kalinina in the debate required a blogger for three and a half years of the real term. Sokolovsky repeatedly refused to plead guilty, in the last word he stated that “he did not understand how to blame him for nationalism” and said that “did not change the opinion of religion.

Videoobloger was accused of ten episodes. Nine of them is the publication of Videsets on a personal YouTube channel. All of them are qualified under part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code (excitement of national or religious hatred or enmity). It provides for up to four or up to five years in a colony depending on the dating of a particular episode: "Package of Yarovaya", which entered into force in July 2016, tightened the sanction on this charges. Part 1 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code (insulting the feelings of believers; up to a year of a real period) was also imputed under six of the nine episodes of Sokolovsky. Another one was charged with one of the same article (up to three years), however, the prosecutor refused to the debate in the debate.

According to the 10th episode, the blogger was charged with Article 138.1 of the Criminal Code (illegal circulation of technical means for the unspoken receipt of information), which provides for the four years of the colony. The blogger was accused of using a “spy” handle with a video camera found during a search. A few days after the publication of the plot, the Yekaterinburg diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church submitted a denunciation to the prosecutor's office. On September 2, 2016, Sokolovsky was detained, the Kirovsky district court arrested him for two months. A few days later, the appellate court agreed to transfer the political prisoner under house arrest . On October 28, Sokolovsky was repeatedly arrested under the pretext of violations of house arrest conditions. On February 13, it became known that Sokolovsky was again transferred under house arrest . Two months later, the Investigative Committee announced the sending of the case to court.
