Four members of the Human Rights Council who previously announced the termination of their powers intend to return and continue to work in the Council. This was announced in an interview with Izvestia, the head of the council Mikhail Fedotov. The head of the Moscow Helsinki group Lyudmila Alekseeva, Director of the Institute of Human Rights Valentin Hifter, human rights activist Boris Pustintsev and chairman of the board of the Institute of Modern Development, vice-president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Igor Yurgens, are returning to the Council.

“Four people who stated that they were going in protest against the rotation system returned. Since the rotation system that we ultimately developed arranged everyone,” Fedotov said to the publication.

Alekseeva, Gifter, Deserts and Jurgens left the Council in early July. They were not arranged by a new council formation system based on the results of Internet voting. Now, according to Fedotov, the situation has changed. “They are ready to work in an updated council with Putin. But they are not ready to work in the Council of God,” says Fedotov.

Alekseeva told Izvestia that she was primarily worried about the new composition of the council. "If the list of members of the Council, which is carried out for approval by the president, will include decent and working people, then I am ready to stay. If they are people" what to deign "or inoperative, I do not want to spend my very small forces on this council," Alekseeva said.

Gifter said that three factors influence his decision: an attack on civilian freedom under the new president, a disrespectful attitude to the Human Rights Council and his future composition. "If there are positive changes in all three components, then it makes sense to work further," the human rights activist believes.

Deserts are ready to work in the Council if the previous system of council formation is returned. "I left the HRC when, with the filing of Vyacheslav Volodin and with the consent of Mikhail Alexandrovich (Fedotova. - Ed.), The principles of recruiting members of the Council were changed. I want, as before, we recommend new members of the Council," he said.

Fedotov also said that in fact, the head of the Civil Promotion Committee, Svetlana Gannushkin, remained in the council. “Her exit is very dual, because, on the one hand, she stated that she was leaving the Council, and on the other hand, she continues her work in him,” Fedotov said.

Fedotov promised that the new composition of the council would be no less professional than the previous one.
