Nadezhda Tolokonnikova has no financial disputes with her husband Peter Verzilov. This is stated in Tolokonnikova’s letter from a conclusion published on Monday on the website of Echo of Moscow. The letter was dated on October 19, when the convicted participants in Pussy Riot were in jail before being sent to the colony.
Tolokonnikova decided to clarify the previous statement by Pussy Riot about Verzilov’s role, published in early October. It concerned purely ideological issues, Tolokonnikov emphasizes. “There was no economic interest or financial distrust of the statement,” she writes. “These are not the things that excite and touch us. Only politics excites us.” Accusing Verzilov of Kvasimenniki, Tolokonnikova and co-author of the statements Maria Alekhina did not mean any fraud with finances, the new letter emphasizes.
“This statement is not“ against Petit, ”Tolokonnikova writes.“ We are not against anyone who decided to support us. This statement that corrects the role of Petit in the media plan. Unfortunately, because of deep sexism, permeating (still) our society, people tend to look for the strong, bold and effective actions of women who oversees them.
The previous letter of Tolokonnikov and Alekhin said that Verzilov had no right to act on behalf of the group. As follows from the prison letters, published recently by lawyer Mark Feigin, the third member of the group Ekaterina Samutsevich also objected to Pussy Riot to represent and receive the Yoko Prize awarded to the group. According to Feigin, Samutsevich was the initiator of these letters of protest. She herself, however, said in several interviews that she and his associates had never discussed the role of Verzilov and the statement by Alekhina and Tolokonnikova surprised her.
Last week, a public conflict broke out around the registration of the Pussy Riot trademark. Lawyers accused Verzilov and Samutsevich of trying to cash in on the brand of punk groups. Samutsevich, in turn, stated that she always opposed the commercial use of the brand. She expressed dissatisfaction that Feigin tried to register the Pussy Riot trademark for his wife's company. At the end of October, Rospatent refused to register. Feigin claims that he acted in the interests and on behalf of Alekhina and Tolokonnikova. He intends to protect their rights to the Pussy Riot brand in international instances.
