Vitaly Vorotnikov died

The former first secretary of the Voronezh regional committee of the CPSU, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU, chairman of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR Vitaly Vorotnikov died in Moscow at the 88th year of his life, RIA Novosti reports. "A prominent Soviet statesman, Hero of Socialist Labor, Honorary Citizen of Voronezh Vitaly Ivanovich Vorotnikov died on Sunday after a serious and long illness," the report said.

As the Government of the Voronezh region notes, despite the fact that Vorotnikov lived and worked in Moscow for many years, until the last days he maintained contact with his hometown and was the permanent President of the Particiary "Voronezh residents in Moscow."

Vorotnikov was born in 1926 in the Tokar family. In 1971 he was elected the first secretary of the Voronezh regional committee of the CPSU. Over the four years of his manuals in the region, the fourth and fifth blocks of the Novovoronezh NPP, the Pavlovsky GOK, and the mineral fertilizer plant were introduced into operation.

In the 80s, Vorotnikov headed the Council of Ministers and the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR, elected candidates for members of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU and members of the Politburo. In 1996, he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Voronezh.
