Russia is ready to accept the ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko for treatment, if the Ukrainian authorities allow, said Vladimir Putin. “If Julia Vladimirovna considers it possible and if the authorities of Ukraine, our Ukrainian partners agree with this, we would love to accept Yulia Vladimirovna Tymoshenko in Russia for treatment at any time convenient for her and for the authorities of Ukraine in any medical institution,” RIA Novosti quoted Putin.
Putin added that Tymoshenko’s case cannot be linked with the final part of Euro 2012 in Ukraine. “In no case should you mix politics, business and other issues of this kind with sports. We need to leave the sport alone. I adhere to the principle that professes and supports the International Olympic Committee: Sports outside politics,” Putin emphasized.
In turn, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine again stated that the treatment of convicts abroad is not provided for by the legislation of the country. Earlier, German doctors who examined Tymoshenko in the colony proposed sending her to one of the Berlin clinics. “Germany and Russia are the same for us in this matter. The procedure is the same,” the press service of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office said on Thursday.
On Thursday, the All -Ukrainian Association "Fatherland" called on his leader to stop the hunger strike. "Julia Vladimirovna! We are seriously concerned. If earlier it was about the threat of your health, now your life is at risk. We beg you to stop a hunger strike. We need you and the Ukrainian people alive," the Batkivshchina statement said. As reported on the website of the movement, as a sign of solidarity with Tymoshenko, on Sunday, the former Czech senator from the Civil Democratic Party Pershoimil Semlod began a hunger strike.
Last week, Tymoshenko, serving a seven -year term, said that she was beaten during transportation from a colony to a hospital. According to the ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine, three colony officers twisted her arms and legs, and also hit her in the stomach. The Ukrainian Pravda website published photos confirming these charges. In protest against the brutal circulation of Tymoshenko, since April 20, holds a hunger strike.
Tymoshenko was convicted in October 2011 to seven years in prison for abuse of powers when signing a gas agreement with Russia in 2009. After the arrest, Tymoshenko repeatedly complained about severe back pain, because of which she could not move. The defense claimed that the former Ukrainian Prime Minister did not provide the necessary treatment.
Prominent Western politicians supported Tymoshenko and called for the Ukrainian part of the European football championship. In particular, the head of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and German Chancellor Angela Merkel made such an appeal. In addition, the presidents of Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Austria and Slovenia refused to participate in the Summit of Central Europe, which will be held on May 11-12 in Yalta.
