The Ministry of Internal Affairs apparently wanted to deal with the head of the Hermitage Capital investment fund, William Browder. Sergei Magnitsky, who died under unclear circumstances in Matrosskaya Tishina, served as an auditor of the fund. He was taken into custody after discovering traces of financial fraud by representatives of law enforcement agencies - he himself was accused of fraud, but the case never came to trial. Meanwhile, his trial will continue, despite the fact that he is no longer in the world. His boss Browder, who allowed himself to blame the security forces for the death of Magnitsky, was accused in absentia of nothing less than the illegal acquisition of shares in the sacred Gazprom. This will be cooler than Khodorkovsky.
Kommersant quotes a statement from the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which states that “despite the notification sent to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland about the need for William Browder to arrive” for questioning as an accused, “neither he himself nor his official representatives appeared or No notifications were sent." To this, a representative of the Hermitage Foundation replied that “the Ministry of Internal Affairs knows that summonses are not sent abroad through embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for this there is a special procedure enshrined in the Russian criminal procedure law and international agreements.” The Ministry of Internal Affairs believes that everything was done according to the law, and they plan to put Browder on the international wanted list.
According to investigators, Browder in 1999-2004 acquired Gazprom shares at intra-market prices, bypassing the existing ban on their sale to foreigners, using a “gray scheme” of acquisition, under which shares were bought on behalf of Russian legal entities registered, as a rule, in zones with preferential tax treatment, which were actually controlled by foreigners. The damage that, according to investigators from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was caused to the Russian state by only one of the companies controlled by Browder, Cameo LLC, amounts to three billion rubles. In addition, Browder allegedly tried to gain access to the company's financial statements of strategic importance and to join the board of directors of Gazprom.
The trial in the Magnitsky case (not in connection with his murder - everyone there was cleared and acquitted a long time ago) was supposed to begin on March 11, but the hearing was decided to be postponed until March 22, since the state lawyers of the deceased said that they did not have time to familiarize themselves with all the volumes of the case . They became involved recently after Browder and Magnitsky's relatives refused to participate in the hearings, calling the case illegal.
Meanwhile, scary films about Browder are already being shown on NTV and Channel One. According to helpful television, Browder was allegedly connected with foreign intelligence services and was hiding behind front companies that hired disabled people for pennies.
