At the end of May 2017, a festival of short science science films Science Short was held in Novosibirsk for the third time, which is held by the Sinema Atomic Energy and Cinema Information Center, with the support of the Department of Industry, Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Novosibirsk City Hall. In fact, the participants were given only 4.5 days to create a five -minute film! What came of it - we tried to figure it out.
Scientific and popular movie. After reading this phrase, each of our readers, without a doubt, represents something of its own. Someone will remember the darkened school classes in which the old black and white scientists in physics and biology showed. Someone-colorful BBC films. Someone is magnificent lectures on Arzamas or Polit.ru. But few people try on a popular science film for themselves as a variant of their own creativity. Meanwhile, in Novosibirsk, for the third year, a festival of short science fictions created by both specialists and amateurs who only try themselves in this exciting field has been held in Novosibirsk.
However, not all professionals are ready to risk participating in such a festival. Under the conditions in the five -minute film there should be a certain phrase, a certain action and the specified object. All these nuances are declared less than 5 days before the festival itself! So, the teams have only 4.5 days to create their masterpiece. The more amazing the fact that, for example, this year, more than 20 applications for participation were submitted this year. However, only 12 were admitted to the final.
In the 2017 festival films, handshake, glass and the phrase “who need it” were must have been present. The authors beat these nuances very differently. Only the variety of glasses cannot but hit: the glass of cabinets, glasses, doors, objective glass, window, whole and breaking in the frame. The films were judged by a strict jury. But the audience (who, for the most part were at the same time participants in the festival) also proposed in a sense to try on the role of critics: all the audience could vote in one or more films they liked.
As a result of the prize of the audience and the Grand Prix of the festival, a small Akademgorodovskaya studio received-a laboratory of scientific animation of the creative space "Tsoli". I must say that for most of the year children work in the studio. It is they who, with the support of adults (scientist-scientific consultant, artist and director), create popular science cartoons. But this time, young animators lost the filming table for adults. The laboratory has created a cartoon about the new superheroes "Deputies" [1].

Already in the name the allusion to Hollywood blockbusters and the old Soviet film "Elusive Avengers" is hidden. In a parody tape, authors introduce spectators to superpowers of various animals (and such abilities, perhaps, did not even dream of Hollywood heroes).
So, on the screen appear: Kant Kant is the nearest surviving relative of the first terrestrial vertebrates, a fish covered with three layers of solid scales, in composition similar to human teeth; Axolotle Menn - like Axolotle, who has superpenance to regeneration and knows how to give offspring, without becoming adults; A naked digger - like his namesake, does not get old, does not drink water and is practically insensitive to pain, a woman - Kolovratka - knows how to euthanize pregnancy and, if there is a danger of giving birth to offspring with spikes. The captain of the team of new superheroes, the authors of the cartoon appointed a person - a low -proof - “the coolest creature on earth”: short -ides are able to transfer the temperature from absolute zero to 190 degrees, withstand pressure up to 6,000 atmospheres. And this creature not only safely visited outer space, but also gave healthy offspring after returning.
“If you stand the“ deputies ”to the end with a serious expression on your face, you can also consider yourself a superhero,” writes Popular Mechanics in the last review of popular science cartoons. Among the authors of the cartoon, students of the adult studio of the Zokol animation, there is a scientist - a biologist and scientific journalist, which means that in a fairy tale is not just a hint of truth.
The prize for the best work of the director was received by Ekaterina Galyamova (Novosibirsk), who created a dynamic, full humor and a very relevant film “The Last Sincere Like”. In five minutes, literally on the fingers (the main characters are likes and images from real hands), we are shown by the main problems that modern young people face: the choice of their own path, the problem of self -identification, relations with parents and society.
The prize for the best female role was received by Anna Gorbunova for the film "Teleportation" of the Mediastudia "#Non-called" (Kuibyshev). This science fiction film tells how the young graduate student of the Faculty of Physics was a “starting link in the long spindle of incidents”. The role of a student who is interested in the latest research on the movement of objects in space through a transport beam is recognized as the best female role.
The prize for the best male role was received by Vladimir Shprinz (Yakutia) for the film "Picnic". The jury could not remain indifferent to the image of his father trying to tear his son away from the phone and show him the beauty of his native land. In five minutes, the viewer learns how nature heals from the hardships of the spiritual and from the ailments of bodily. The dialogue of the upset son and father delivered a special joy to the audience:
“ - What happened to you?
- I quarreled with the girl, I don’t even know what to do ...
- It's okay, look how beautiful it is here! ”
I, as a spectator and mother of two teenagers, were struck by the work of a fifth grader Masha Zeroeva from Krasnoyarsk. Masha became the youngest participant, who, moreover, completely independently created the film "Do you love fish?" Masha’s parents have nothing to do with shooting or installation, but the girl tried to use their other strengths. So, in the title role, she shot her dad, a charismatic popularizer of science and scientist Yegor Zerueev. It was she who sent him to the Institute of Biophysics of the SB RAS to find out whether scientists love, how it is useful and what it depends on. The jury did not leave the work of the car unnoticed and awarded it the prize “For the best second -plan larvae” (analyzing their chemical composition, scientists can evaluate fish nutrition).
Another cartoon, this time drawn by the marker, was prepared by the Novosibirsk Uproject. They turned to very relevant, unfortunately, far from only for our city the problem of traffic jams. The animated film "City and Mathematics" begins with discussions about soap bubbles - "a unique thing that strives to take the minimum surface." As many spectators admitted to us, it was these incomprehensible, albeit funny inserts about bubbles in a smooth and built story about the public transport system, did not like them to like when voting for the best film.
“In general, the cartoon was shot very dynamically,” explains why she cast her vote to other works, Irina, one of the spectators. - And the problem is relevant literally around the world. But, firstly, the idea of comparing traffic jams and soap bubbles remained incomprehensible to me, and secondly, I, I admit, were very annoyed by rather long passages from the film “Sensual Mathematics”, shown to us not on the whole frame, but on a small screen of a smartphone. ” However, the jury was not so categorical and awarded the creators of the prize “For left -handed movement”, unobtrusively pointing to the English approach to the movement of cars among the Novosibirsk authors.

Another children's work from Krasnoyarsk received a prize in special nomination "For the best handshake." Anastasia Kharkov and Yana Fomina in the film "Let's argue?" They extract paints from natural materials and eventually draw a multi -colored snail from cherry juice, sea buckthorn and poplar leaves.
“This festival was born from our friendship with the cinema hall“ Cinema ”,” says Kirillov Loginov, the creator of the festival. - “Sinema” has a “Skorofilm” project, in the framework of which such festivals took place. They were called “film championists”, and the terms there were even tougher, for example, only 24 hours. When we decided to make such a contest of popular science films, it was somehow obvious that Icea and “Cinema” would sooner or later come to this decision. It seems to me that the authors like such a challenge. To come up with your own film, more consisted with the conditions of the competition, to make a small movie in a short time - this is such a challenge to yourself. Even if you do not win, you will see your creation on the big screen. In my opinion, this is cool. In a good way, I envy those who can make small films, and admire them. I myself do not know how and therefore is doubly glad that I can at least be a selector of a small but proud film festival. ”
We asked Ilya Kabanov, the popularizer of science, the editor of the popular science almanac Metkere.com and the head of the scientific communications agency, the organizer of educational events, tell how he was guided as a jury member, choosing the best films: “Each jury member had its own criteria to evaluate the work. I evaluated each film from two sides: how correct it is from a scientific point of view and how spectacular it is shot. It seems that the work of adult participants differed little from the work of the children: among my favorites were both those and others. This is the charm of 2017: today even a child can make a fascinating and high -quality video - this is their native language. I am a big fan of visual formats: Science Short is already the third festival of scientific films in which I participate as a jury member. Such festivals help expand the horizons of people, which is very important for me. A wide outlook is the key to success in a marvelous new world, where we are moving rapidly. ”
