The “penny” erected a monument

In the capital, a monument "Kopeika" was opened - the first car of the Volga Automobile Plant - VAZ -2101. At the opening ceremony of the monument, about one and a half square meters of the site were strewn with single -blooded coins, which, according to the organizers of the event, "it was not so easy to find in Sberbank of Russia even in a week."

According to RIA Novosti , the number of sprinkled coins was ten times less than the first brand cars that had come off from the conveyor - their Togliatti plant produced 2 million 702 thousand 657. The first VAZ -2101 - Lada 1200 car went off the conveyor in 1970 and became the founder of the entire VAZ classic. The car was practically no different from the Fiat-124 of 1966. Later, the VAZ released the modifications of the "penny"-VAZ-21011 and VAZ-21013. This series was discontinued in 1984. In 2000, according to the results of a referendum held by the magazine "Driving", the VAZ-2101 was recognized as the best Russian car of the outgoing century.
