On Saturday, Moscow activists, at the call of Alexei Navalny, arrived by train to Khimki and, breaking into groups, campaigned for Yevgenia Chirikova all day long, handed out leaflets and collected voter orders. About 50 volunteers took part in the action "Agitate Khimki". They had many competitors on the streets of the city - local residents that day campaigned for the candidate from the "Patriots of Russia" Dmitry Myshkin, the former prefect Oleg Mitvol and Chirikova's main rival - United Russia party Oleg Shakhov. Agitators Shakhov and Mitvol could stand at one bus stop, and Myshkin could stand across the road.

Khimki: Campaigning for Chirikova

The day before, the Khimki city court dismissed Chirikova's application for the protection of voting rights. She demanded that Shakhov's actions be recognized as abuse of office, and the inaction of the election commission illegal. In her statement, Chirikova claimed that her rival's campaigning activities were being carried out in violation of the electoral law. The budget-funded newspaper Khimkinskiye Novosti campaigns for Shakhov and is distributed free of charge, Chirikova said. "This is an expenditure of funds not from the candidate's election campaign, therefore, this is a legitimate reason to withdraw Shakhov's candidacy," she said.

According to her, Shakhov uses administrative resources in his election campaign. She also added that she applied to the TEC with a request to remove Shakhov, but she was refused the commission. “Now I have to act within the legal framework. If this court does not listen to me, then I will find courts that will listen. And whether the court will listen or not, now it depends very much on our activity,” Chirikova concluded.

Candidates for the post of mayor of Khimki also include a representative of the Green party Anton Gusenkov, a member of the Communists of Russia party Anatoly Baranov, the leader of the rock group Corrosion of Metal Sergey "Spider" Troitsky, a former member of Yabloko Igor Belousov, who is nominated by the party "New Russia", and Maxim Rokhmistrov from the Liberal Democratic Party. After the resignation of the previous mayor, Vladimir Strelchenko, early elections are scheduled for October 14.
