Since last year, McCain took place of chemo- and radiation therapy. Despite the disease, he continued to work in the Senate: on July 25, he appeared in the upper house of Congress after the surgery on the brain and voted for the abolition of healthcare reform carried out by Barack Obama; McCain's voice became decisive. Subsequently, he worked for some time in the Senate Committee on Armed Forces. However, already in December, McCain, due to health reasons, could not attend the vote regarding the tax reform proposed by the Republicans (he supported this law). The Senate approved her.
On Friday, McCain said that he decided to abandon further treatment.
The senator’s funeral will be held in Annapolis, Maryland. According to CNN, citing friends of the Senator family, US President Donald Trump is not invited to the funeral. In May, McCain stated that he would not want Trump to be present at his funeral. The ceremony will be visited by former US presidents George Bush Jr. and Barack Obama.

The future senator was born on August 29, 1936 at the air base of the US Air Force "Coco Solo" in Panama. His father and grandfather were the admirals of the US Navy. McCain graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis by becoming a military pilot in 1958. In 1962, during the Caribbean crisis and sea blockade of Cuba, McCain served on the Enterprise aircraft carrier.
In the spring of 1967, a young pilot was sent to Vietnam. On October 26, 1967, the McCain plane was shot down during an operation to bombard the positions of the Severovetnamian troops. Before the signing of a peace agreement between the United States and North Vietnam in March 1973, McCain was captured, where he was tortured.
In 1973-74, McCain underwent rehabilitation from the consequences of wounds and captivity, in 1974 he was appointed to the educational air squadron, in 1977 he became a naval communication officer under the Senate, but already in 1981 he left military service.
