On Thursday, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting on a draft law on amendments and additions to the law of Belarus on the press and other media. According to PRIMA, Lukashenko said that the law "should guarantee freedom of speech, but not freedom of slander and biased presentation of facts." At the meeting, Lukashenko said that the need to adopt a new version of the law about printing is dictated by time. According to him, the document should take into account "the realities of today and eliminate gaps in the regulation of media activities." "We are preparing a law not for Americans, Europeans or Russians. This is a Belarusian document and it is called upon to guard the interests of society and the individual, and not a narrow professional corporation, as it is often called, the fourth power," Lukashenka said.
