Born in the USSR

Igor Mukhin and Treemedia publishing house announced the reprint of the famous photo book “Born in the USSR” about generations of people born before 1991. The book will be released in solid binding and with a new second part, which will include 24 more photos of Igor Mukhin. The circulation will be determined on the basis of the results of the campaign to collect preliminary orders, which can already be made on the site of the creative laboratory "Wednesday" .

In 2004, the group of photo enthusiasts from the Russian Field Gallery (Vladimir Sumovsky / Alexei Rogov) had the idea of ​​releasing a Russian author’s photo book.

Perhaps many candidates were considered; At some point, a specific proposal and publisher (Leonid Gusev) appeared.

Leonid liked my project about Soviet monuments, but it was also clear that this project was rather not about photography (and, perhaps, it would be not interesting to lovers of photography), but about the Council.

Considering many options from “night Moscow” to rock, I came to the idea that the crisis 1991 shared generations that will fill out endless statements and profiles in the world (with the phrase “country of birth”), for those who were born in the USSR - and in Russia.

Just a month before the coup, my daughter was born; Born a little later were already born in Russia.

The format of the publication was chosen: horizontal, 192 pages.

I fell in love with both covers proposed by the designer A. Gusev; The main circulation has a dark green cover with a romantic guy on the seashore. And very small-black with tough in the drawing of Moscow in the mid-1990s.

I divided the book into conditional chapters: rock in the USSR, work, love, holidays/rallies, service/sales soldiers, urban environment/province, vacation topic, etc. etc.

The presentation of the work is total, without empty white stripes.

The main advantage of this publication for me personally is a game with the turn. It was necessary not only to arrange photos on topics, but also for each find their own mirror pair and a place in the chapters.

There were many attempts to copy photos from the book “Born in the USSR” from the side of network enthusiasts, but everyone was doomed in advance to failure! On the Web, it was simply a meaningless set of photo (excellent, good and medium).

The last three or four years have passed in conversations-discussions with Leonid Gusev that people want a book and the only option for the publication for today is an electronic version.

I was not opposed!

But the meaning of this particular publication is in the sequence of work in the book and the game with the turns (!)-to play with two cards, where something similar to Kuleshov’s effect in the cinema works.

And today there was a new attempt to reprint the book, possibly with a new solid cover, by subscription.

As a bonus, the book will have a new chapter or the second part with the latest 24 photos.
