On the evening of July 23, in the building of REU #24 of the Moscow District Izmailovo, public hearings were supposed to be held to change the status of part of the territory of the Izmailovsky Park - from the "specially protected natural territory" to the "recreation zone". On the border of the park, it is planned to build a temple complex according to the program "200 temples in Moscow" and several entertainment and sports facilities. Residents of Izmailov are afraid that this construction will lead a part of the park in the cut.
In the park, leaflets called to come to hearings and speak out against the project. On the evening of July 23, about 400 people came to the REU building, while the hall where the hearings were to be held could not accommodate more than 50 people. Registration of the participants in the hearings was carried out on only two tables. In such conditions, the audience spontaneously decided to go outside and spend a gathering. In fact, this gathering turned into an unauthorized rally of opponents of construction. Several police officers standing nearby did not interfere with what was happening.
With a gathering, it was decided to recognize the hearing on July 23 by failed and demand a hearing another day. According to the Town Planning Code, construction work cannot begin before public areas.
