On February 18 and 19, in Perm, in the space of the Private Philharmonic “Triumph”, shows “ Close your eyes” , staged by choreographer Anna Abalikhina and the playwright Ilya Kukharenko, with the participation of vocalists of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater and invited performers, will be held. About how the boundaries break in this performance and genres are united, says Leila Guchmazov.
“Close my eyes” was born from three parents: the performance was conceived by the International Festival-School “Territory”, the Perm opera and the company “Siber”, becoming the result of “Art Laboratory”-a large-scale educational initiative, the previous stages of which were implemented in Tobolsk and Voronezh. It was no coincidence that the Perm project was held under the ambitious motto “Opera Like the Ballet” - a city where Robert Wilson and Romeo Castelcucci were placed, not only in Russia, but in the world, it is steadily perceived by the laboratory of the new musical theater. Where, if not in Perm, it was worth starting an interdisciplinary laboratory, in which, in full accordance with the world trends, opera singers were invited to master the plastic language of Contemporary Dance , and to modern performers - to find yourself in European chamber vocal music. However, there were much more ideas in this action: the original and carefully thought -out mix of heterogeneous ingredients gives rise to completely new meanings in “Close my eyes” - both theatrical and musical ones.
In this ascetic chamber performance, there are much more life than other premieres produced by repertoire monsters.
The performance is played in the private Philharmonic “Triumph” - a space with good, as in any empty small hall, acoustics. The authors and participants have no confidence in their own rightness, this unbearable “floated-we know”: the premiere shows were held outwardly restrained, in a good nervous accent on the word “experiment”. As it turned out, in this ascetic chamber performance there are much more life than in other premieres produced by repertoire monsters in ancient multi -tiered theaters.
© Anton Zavyalov“Close my eyes” - a performance for eleven artists: the quartet of the opera stars of the troupe of Theodore Kurentsis with the beautiful pianist Christina Basyul and six dancers recruited in the open casting look together as if they mixed oil and water - at least at first glance, at the very beginning of the performance. Still, the opera singers, no matter how modern directing tried, infrequently demonstrate freedom of movement. Rare exceptions to this rule are Nina Minasyan, singing on a quieter-ward under the sofits of the Bolshoi Theater, and hanging upside down on a rope staircase in the Paris Opera Nalia Dessee. It is no wonder that at the very beginning of rehearsals, Anna Abalikhina faced the inevitable distrust of the singers. Of course, no one set the tasks of “pulling the socks” and “holding back”: Abalikhina was not spoiled by the “only true” understanding of the culture of the scene in the canons of academic ballet.

The soloists of the Perm opera Natalya Buklag, Natalya Kirillova, Konstantin Suchkov, the soloist of the Musicaeterna choir Sergey Godin and the performers who came from the street were able to become a whole team, embodying the dream of Gesamtkunstwerk , the synthesis of arts.
© Anton Zavyalov Choreographer Anna Abalikhina and playwright Ilya Kukharenko took the textbook romantic form “Wreath of Songs” as a basis. “Close your eyes” is a whimsical collection of romances in French, Aramaic and German in the range from Schubert and Maler to Berg, Pulenka and Dyupark, inlaid by the electronics of Alexei Najarov (the sound design is rarely when the musical performances are so appropriate and delicate): there is a place and delicate tenor sighs about how “in my heart The longing settled ”( “ Tristesse ” by Gabriel Fore), and the tragic memorial prayer (“ Kadish ”Ravel). The original text and the Russian translation in each of the numbers are projected onto the brick wall: “Love chooses the journey - this is how God created it,” the singer turns to his lover, from whom he is separated by eight in a row on the floor. Abalikhina begins with the fact that he will carefully install the vocalists on the dance text, in the end to dissolve them in it without a trace-the main character of the performance, which has become a noticeable event of the current theater season, is ultimately a single vocal and choreographic body, moving a single black ribbon with many hands and feet.
