A loud scandal erupted around the Taganka Theater. Before an open rehearsal in Prague in the presence of students and journalists, the theater actors demanded that the main director Yuri Lyubimov immediately pay them their fees. The money was issued, after which Lyubimov announced that he was leaving the theater. The actors consider their demands legitimate and complain about Lyubimov, who insulted them. Lyubimov claims that actors do not want to work, they would just like to receive money. According to the oldest actress of the theater, Tatyana Sidorenko, as reported by RIA Novosti, the actors learned that the fee for the tour in the Czech Republic was transferred to Lyubimov’s family and nothing will go to them. “I must say that we already have bitter experience when the theater management did not pay fees for performances played on tour. In this case, the money was also received by the management, but they were not going to give it out,” Sidorenko said. The actors, meanwhile, are against Lyubimov leaving, and accusations are brought mainly against his family, in particular his wife and deputy Katalin Lyubimova. The Moscow Department of Culture is also against it. There, however, they have not yet received Lyubimov’s resignation letter.
