A penalty for memory

Foreign human rights activists who arrived in Nizhny Novgorod to participate in the forum of Anna Politkovskaya and detained by the police are released. As one of the organizers of the forum, Stanislav Dmitrievsky, said on the air of the Echo of Moskvy, they were discharged from three to five thousand rubles.

“Fines are written under far -fetched pretexts: if you arrived at the conference, you should not have a tourist visa, but a business one,” he said. The detainees spent about 4 hours in the department, which is a violation of the law, said Dmitrievsky.

Foreign human rights activists "certainly will appeal these illegal decisions and have already called their consulates," he stressed.

Three citizens of Spain, one Englishman and a German citizen were detained on Saturday on suspicion of violation of migration legislation. In the office of the Tolerance support fund, where foreign citizens were detained, a search was searched and computers were seized.

The conference they arrived at was not able to hold due to the intervention of the authorities. The Nizhny Novgorod branch of VTB-24 Bank refused to work with the organizers of the event from the fund to support tolerance. Human rights activists said that the actions of the bank are worth the authorities.

Despite the refusal of the bank, foreign guests of the forum said that they would still come to Nizhny Novgorod to honor the memory of Anna Politkovskaya. However, on Thursday, the Oktyabrskaya hotel administration canceled the reservation for them due to the fact that "flooded the rooms." As a result, part of the guests was located in Nizhny Novgorod on their own, and also part of the fund’s employees settled at their homes.
