On April 1, 1951, the Operation "North" began - mass resettlement of Jehovah's Witnesses and members of their families to Siberia. 8576 people were deported from the occupied Baltic states, Western Belarus, Western Ukraine, Bessarabia and Bukovins (3048 families). The evicted was given two hours to fees. Their property was confiscated. Deported was allowed to return to their homeland only in 1965. In accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 30, 1965, "the removal of special settlement restrictions for these persons did not entail a refund of property confiscated during eviction."
Putin's current policy regarding Jehovah's Witnesses is the continuation of the Stalinist repressions.
