Wiki Loves Monments

Objective : to organize a convenient working base of the architectural heritage of Russia for further use in Russia of the All -European photo contest.

WikilivesMonments - a competition whose purpose is to obtain high -quality illustrative material of architectural heritage monuments (Monments). The competition participates in the competition loaded with their own authors in September to Wikisklad (//commons.wikimedia.org/) photographs distributed under a free license, which depicts a particular member of the participating country. In Russia, for holding the competition, responsibly NP Vikimedia RU (//wikimedia.ru/)

The competition takes place as part of GLAM Initives (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums-galleries, libraries, archives and museums) for cooperation of the Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia is the most famous) with a cultural industry.

In 2011, Russia participated in the competition in the format of a pilot project: 2.5 weeks instead of a month, and only within the framework of St. Petersburg. In 2012, the task is to expand the participation (//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/ethumb/EB/wlm_2012_russia.svg/500px-wlm_2012_russia.svg.png.png-at least the regions noted by the blue will participate).

The maximum inconvenience when working last year was caused by the database in which it was necessary to find the object identifier to specify it during loading. The work was based on the base from the site //kulturnoe-nasledie.ru/, which is a summary of databases of different levels, partially outdated, partially erroneous (the Hermitage in the city of Sochi is found in the database, a monument to Lenin of the 19th century installations, old addresses, lost objects, etc.), partially incomplete.

The principle of operation of the application:

The result should be a convenient base in which it will be possible:

1. Search for objects next to a given point,
2. search for objects by name, location, including approximate
3. The search for not yet shot objects (including in a given area),
4. Error message and the possibility of correcting them by a group of moderators.

All users can view lists of monuments with division by regions and cities, as well as visually look for them on the map. For each monument, it should be the opportunity to see the information, mark the error and move on to uploading photos to Wikisklad ( //commons.wikimedia.org/ ). It is desirable that monuments can be highlighted, for which no photograph has yet been uploaded.

In addition to ordinary users, there will be mockers who should have access to adding and editing information about monuments and correcting their location on the map. For them, there should be the opportunity to mark the monuments that they have already checked and which may contain errors. They should also see errors marked by users.
