Dal Konstantinovich Orlov was born in 1935 in the village of Razdolny Voroshilovsky Rain of the Far Eastern Territory (now Nadezhdinsky district of the Primorsky Territory). He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Moscow State University (1957).
In 1958-1969, he worked as an employee, deputy head of the department, head of the Labor Literature and Art Department, in 1969–1972-deputy chief editor of the magazine of Kino, in 1972–1978-chief editor of the Main Scenario and Editorial Board of the Goskino Goskino, a member of the College of Goskino of the USSR, in 1978-1986 years - editor -in -chief of the magazine "Soviet screen",
In 1980-1986 he led the television show of Kinopanorama (in turn with Eldar Ryazanov).
In 1994-1997 he was a correspondent for the newspaper New Russian Word (New York), headed her Moscow bureau. In the late 1990s-early 2000s, he worked in the newspaper Century and in his native newspaper.
