On the eve of the New Year, the Bolshoi Theater makes a generous gift to balletomanes - it releases an evening of premieres of one-act ballets - real masterpieces of the 20th century, relevant in the new century and, of course, in the new year. "Serenade" was the first American production of the great Russian Georgian George Balanchine in America, and it is still a magnificent example of "white" romantic ballet. The name of the ballet "Herman Shmerman" by our brilliant contemporary, American choreographer William Forsythe, is an untranslatable play on words, in Russian it sounds something like "Shirley Myrli", the phrase was taken by Forsythe from the American comedy by Carl Reiner "The Dead Don't Wear Checkered". Forsythe again turns the classic steps and techniques inside out - the way he knows how, understanding the body as a complex perfect mechanism. He composes ballets like God, who caught a beautiful spaceship in the universe and unscrews decorative screws on it. The evening will end with Balanchine's Rubies, which are part of the Jewels ballet, inspired by the jeweler's work. Rubies is considered Balanchine's homage to America (Emeralds is dedicated to France, Diamonds is dedicated to Russia), but at the Bolshoi Theater, against which ruby Kremlin stars shine, the Rubies ballet is absolutely appropriate.

The play "Duck Hunt" by Alexander Vampilov is an exact marker of each new generation of Russian boys and girls for the ability to introspect and answer the question: "How meaningless is my life?". The text, which requires a hard look at oneself, is played by popular theater and film actors from 30 to 40. Zilov is played by the lone rebel Vladimir Epifantsev, a textured giant and hooligan finally appreciated by the cinema (according to Vampilov’s remarks, Zilov is just not puny, like Dahl in the film “Vacation in September", it is just big and dense). In the role of his wife - Olga Lomonosova, who was glorified by the series, and she is accurate in the theatrical complex work. Zilov's mistress Vera is played by Nadya Mikhalkova. This is her first work on the theater stage. Gratitude to the "Other Theater" for the idea of such a cast. In general, "Duck Hunt" before diving into a New Year's bowl of salad is a timely vaccination against vacation unconsciousness.

The Sovremennik Theater is hosting the premiere of the play Happy New Year, which was born in collaboration with two remarkable artists, Sergei Garmash and Leonid Yarmolnik. Somewhere on the set, the idea arose to play together in the theater and ... Subsequently, the actor, director and playwright Rodion Ovchinnikov joined the duet. Without opening the cards about the vicissitudes of the plot, the creators of the performance say that this is a "New Year's story of two friends." For Yarmolnik, going on stage will be the first after a long break: having left the Taganka Theater in 1983, he acted in films and produced films. Yarmolnik's wife Oksana, a well-known artist and puppeteer, designed the costumes for the New Year's play.
